Pre departure
Was check in quick and efficient? Used web checkin the day of departure. Carry-on only bags so no need to visit the check-in counters at YYC. However as I entered the central processor terminal I noticed that YYC domestic J checkin was lined up with about 4-5 groups in line and three agents, however the general line had no line-up. Improvement opportunity for YYC, the placement of J checkin counters (segregated from regular with a wide corridor) makes it impossible for agents from the general line to connect with J line. Consequently when J checkin gets lined up, the regular checkin agents are unable to get J customers to come over.
Did you use priority security (if eligible) and if so, was it quick and efficient? No priority security line at YYC Concourse A security. Priority security for Concourse A/B would be a definite welcomed enhancement.
Did you use the Maple Leaf lounge and if so, any feedback in regards to service, food and drinks? Good selection of food and drink at 4pm.Cookies were plentiful and fresh made.
Self serve pasta offering (e.g. spaghetti, ravioli, etc) in addition to the soup offering would be warmly appreciated addition with minimal cost.

Was priority boarding offered (if applicable to your status) and efficient? Priority boarding was offered, however process was very confusing (typical for the YYC station). Issue with location of the priority boarding signage and stanchions, simply put these items are not effectively deployed at YYC. Current location of signs and stanchions directs priority boarding to the side and past the gate podium, however general boarding line is immediately infront of the door. Correct deployment of the stanchions infront of the gate door would prevent confusion or allow Priority Boarding to line up correctly. Alternately if YYC both gate agents would pull passengers from priority boarding line first (rather than focus one agent on priority boarding and second agent for regular line) the priority boarding process would be less confusing.
If there was a delay, did the gate agent provide timely updates? No, Small delay on boarding (started at 4:45pm for 5pm departure; however light load resulted in near on-time departure. That said numerous passengers approached the podium between 4:30 and 4:45 to enquire about boarding time.

Onboard - Y cabin:
Were the crew professional & well groomed? Yes
If there was a delay, were you provided with timely updates? Near On-time departure. Delay on arrival at YYZ due to flow control (the map IFE worked and we did a large S turn over Sarnia and Milton). Pilot informed all pax of delay, however no explanation of S turn holding pattern. An explanation would have been helpful as the A320 was unusually nose high – which was unnerving to some of the passengers in the aft section.
Was the IFE activated on the ground? Yes
Approximately how long after take off did it take for the first meal service/Onboard cafe to begin? Meal service was prompt, however heavy BoB meant the truck was slow. Not much could be done about the situation.
How was the quality of the meal/Onboard cafe? Excellent Quality. I took the J class meal option for $13 and was very impressed with both the snack (Carrots and ranch) and Pasta. Meal was very tasteful and big improvement over the sandwiches. An excellent value for money.
Did the cabin crew offer water regularly throughout the flight? Yes

Overall experience/any other comments Overall very good flight from in-flight perspective. Average airport experience at YYC and please note the improvement points for YYC Checkin and Gate agents.
Another improvement point about YYC Concourse A. Renovations are ongoing and 1 additional gate (12A) is being added between gates 12 and 14. I have an issue with the numbering schema. As currently designed, gates 12A and 14 share the holdroom while gate 12 is segregated by a Chili’s restaurant. TGo avoid confusion (pax destined for gate 12A arriving at gate 12 holdroom), I suggest that gate 12A be renumbered to 14A and gate 14 become 14B.

Was priority boarding offered (if applicable to your status) and efficient? I tend to stay in the lounge until boarding is well under way and so when I arrive at the gate am able to go straight onto the plane with few or any queues. This was the case today.
If there was a delay, did the gate agent provide timely updates? N/A


Onboard - J cabin:
Were the crew professional & well groomed? Mostly
If there was a delay, were you provided with timely updates?Yes . Captain annouced a 20 min delay at departure time which was accurate , then a slow crawl to the runway which is par for the course at LHR.
Was the IFE activated on the ground? Yes
Was a pre-departure beverage offered on the ground? Yes
Did crew offer to hang your jacket? No
Were newspapers & menus distributed and meal orders taken (Please specify when meal orders were taken - on the ground or in the air)? Yes to both. Some meal orders taken on the ground - including mine. My guess is that maybe the FA was asking SE and E before asking others after take off.
Did crew offer a hot towel prior to the meal service? Yes
Approximately how long after take off did it take for the first meal service to be completed? (From takeoff to all items collected) 2hrs 15 mins
How was the quality of all the meals? Chicken was very good , and veg well cooked. Choc pudding nice as usual.
Did the cabin crew continiously top up the beverage of your choice throughout the flight? No but I did get two top ups.

Was connecting to SEA flight @ YVR and had a 15 min wait to identify luggage on screen in holding room prior to US Customs.
Overall experience/any other comments
An unremarkable , though largely good flight. The Map was not working on the IFE . That is now 3 working and 7 not in my last 10 TATL flights (in last 12mths). It's a shame but not the end of the world. Let's hope the next generation of IFE is a little more robust.

How was the quality of all the meals? I've had the beef many times this month and this was, by far, the worst of all of them. It was cooked appropriately, but the meat itself was tough and overly gristle-y.

Delay was announced by the captain as being 10 minutes for "minor maintenance issues". 15 minutes later the captain announced that we were waiting for doors to close and we would be leaving very soon. No more announcements were made by anyone on the crew and we departed 45 minutes late.
Was the IFE activated on the ground? Yes
Was a pre-departure beverage offered on the ground? Yes. After the pre-departure drinks were served and collected no more beverages were offered for the duration of the 45 minute delay. To rub salt in the wound, the SD continually drank bottled water in plain view of the J passengers.

Meal order taken on the ground (in some kind of priority order I think), but no menus were provided. I'm guessing that YYZ-YVR is a flagship domestic route for AC, and we were on a plane with pods (763), so the lack of menus made this flight seem very amateur from the start.
Did crew offer a hot towel prior to the meal service? Yes...but they were hardly luke-warm

How was the quality of all the meals? I usually like the pasta, but this time it was disappointing.

The service on this flight was quite mediocre. Either I'm setting a higher standard, I'm unlucky and getting on flights at the low end of the service spectrum, or something has changed recently. My October flying experience has been filled with little disappointments that have taken the shine off of a J class experience that I thought was doing remarkably well.

It's a shame AC moved to Terminal A. B and C offer a much more pleasant experience and *A lounges.

Did you use the Maple Leaf lounge and if so, any feedback in regards to service, food and drinks? Yes. There were no cookies left :(
Was priority boarding offered (if applicable to your status) and efficient? Yes, but non status/ non J PAX boarded freely with the priority group.
If there was a delay, did the gate agent provide timely updates? NO. There were no announcements with regards to the delay from prior to boarding time until after the original departure time had passed. I received an email from a 3rd party travel site but not AC, the AC BB app showed the flight on time. The only indication there was a delay was when the electronic GTAA sign updated to show a new departure time, AFTER the scheduled departure time had passed.

The handling of the departure delay was frustrating. The crew did not arrive until 15 minutes prior to departure. Surely this information is available to AC. Passengers, especially those in the lounge should be informed (maybe with one of the BB/iPhone apps?) and given both notice of the delay, and a 5 minute warning that priority boarding is about to begin. .

Yes, the Exec First agent was very pleasant.
Did you use priority security (if eligible) and if so, was it quick and efficient? Yes, was directed to priority lane by above agent. Turned away very rudely by an American Airlines employee “policing” the priority lane. She stated that Air Canada did not pay into the programme, and that we were not permitted to use the lane. It then took 30+ minutes waiting in the general lane, while there was no wait in the priority lane.
Did you use the Maple Leaf lounge and if so, any feedback in regards to service, food and drinks? Used the United RCC, limited food and drinks.
Was priority boarding offered (if applicable to your status) and efficient? Yes, but inefficient. Boarding began earlier than posted time, we boarded via priority lane to find no space for carryon baggage in the first 8 rows of the Y cabin.

The boarding lines extended out towards the hallway creating a traffic jam around a pillar that is in this area . It would be better if the queues were setup with a 90 degree turn to avoid this area. Seems to be a recurring problem with AC's gates @ SFO.

Did you use the Maple Leaf lounge and if so, any feedback in regards to service, food and drinks? The usual morning snacks. Lounge agents were wonderfully helpful and pleasant.
Was priority boarding offered (if applicable to your status) and efficient? Yes. The staff made a strong effort to manage the process, having the right passengers in the right lanes. The queues need to be longer though, as beyond the queue entrances, there was mayhem with pax jumping to whatever line appeared shortest, pushing and shoving, generally behaving like a group of 7th graders waiting to go out for recess.

The tray table at 18H was broken, tilting at 30+ degrees. This make it useless for a laptop, and frustrating for eating as it was only stable and supportive when folded in half. The F/A laughed and nodded when I pointed this out, and gave the impression I was interrupting him as he was fixated on my neighbour, a family member of one of the other F/As. IFE continues to be a royal pain in the a$$ on AC planes. Not only did my IFE require multiple resets, the screen was not properly touch calibrated, thus making it impossible to select the back, menu and brightness/volume buttons at the bottom of the screen. There seemed to be some bleed over of the adjacent seat’s audio, I could hear her movie when my audio was stopped. The power outlet seemed to have a mind of its own, sometimes on, sometimes not.

The information screens behind the G/A which were just PowerPoint slides were not updated thus they contradicted what was being said in announcements and email notifications. Note: I received notifications from 3rd parties, but never Air Canada, despite registering for the flight alerts.

Priority Baggage seemed to work @ YVR, second bag out.

The male G/A (wasn’t wearing a name tag) was telling PAX @ the gate that were going to miss their connections that they could either pay the same day change fee to reroute now (the direct flight had lots of space available on it), or get stuck in Vancouver and sort it out then. This is horrible customer service. A problem could have been solved pre-emptively and yet the G/A is telling customers he won’t do it as it would look like he lost an opportunity to collect revenue.

Overall experience/any other comments We were left with the feeling that the SD on this flight was interested in doing the bare minimum. He disappeared into the galley to read the newspaper for most of the flight. We also noticed that he seemed to be training/mentoring the junior member of the flight crew. This SD is the absolute wrong choice to train junior staff, as he is setting a very poor example.

Were the crew professional & well groomed? Yes
If there was a delay, were you provided with timely updates? Yes, short delay and we were kept well informed.
Was the IFE activated on the ground? Yes.
Was a pre-departure beverage offered on the ground? Yes
Did crew offer to hang your jacket? NA
Were newspapers & menus distributed and meal orders taken (Please specify when meal orders were taken - on the ground or in the air)? Yes. Meal orders were taken in the air, and according to status.
Did crew offer a hot towel prior to the meal service? Yes
Approximately how long after take off did it take for the first meal service to be completed? (From takeoff to all items collected) 60-90 mins
How was the quality of all the meals? Food quality was good.
Did the cabin crew continiously top up the beverage of your choice throughout the flight? Yes, SD worked hard through the entire flight, hustled to make sure drinks were always topped up, etc.

Overall experience/any other comments What a HUGE difference between this crew and the crew on the way down to POP. The service provided by this SD was quite possibly the best I have received on any flight, AC or otherwise in recent memory. This guy is doing a fantastic job, and is a huge asset to AC. Feel free to PM me for his name, as we made note of it during the flight.

Did you use priority security (if eligible) and if so, was it quick and efficient? Yes
Did you use the Maple Leaf lounge and if so, any feedback in regards to service, food and drinks? Yes (Bread was really stale; would be nice to see slices of cheese to go with the crackers and whatnot.)
Was priority boarding offered (if applicable to your status) and efficient? Yes

Was the IFE activated on the ground? Yes (But it was reset just before we pushed back and took forever to come back up.)

Were newspapers & menus distributed and meal orders taken (Please specify when meal orders were taken - on the ground or in the air)? Newspapers, yes. Menus, no. Food orders were taken in the air. Only the beef and salmon were on-boarded, no pasta or vegetarian option. Was told they've been having "technical problems" with the cheese on the pasta...

How was the quality of all the meals? Not that great. The beef and potatoes were sitting in a lot of water. Would have much-preferred the pasta which seem to always be AWESOME. The cheese cannelloni from the summer was great and the one time I got the new cheese ravioli this month was great too! Please fix those "technical problems" with the cheese ;)

This is the third flight I've been on in October that was missing the pasta/vegetarian option in J. I've always been impressed with the pasta dishes in J--please bring them back!
