I'm usually a YYZ-er Did the cabin crew continuously top up the beverage of your choice throughout the flight? Yes The kind lady who attended to my seat was great. Sense of humour, the whole bit. Her SD was not. Gave the impression she had no time for anyone, and was busy. Again, as with most TATL flights, the service was rushed - to get to the magazines in the galley. AC offers the Gourmet Express option for those who want to eat and crash quick. Those that choose the full menu (cuz they can't sleep before midnight, like me) should not have the next course arriving while only 1/2 way through the 1st. And I'm a quick eater - I'm used to eating in the 2 minutes I have, 10 minutes before air-time, on the back of a production truck. Please bring back the "Wake Me / Don't Wake me" stickers I used to get in J going to GRU. When I woke up, I couldn't even get a cup of coffee we were so close to wheels-down. In hindsight, I suppose I could have requested a wake-up call. I'll see how that goes next time. F/A was nice enough to fetch me some juice from an already-stowed trolley so I could get rid of the morning ew. In fact, I think this would work best. When taking meal orders, ask for one of three options: 1) Wake me for full breakfast service. 2) Wake me with enough time to sip a coffee and take a pee before wheels-down. 3) Touch me and die :) (I know some are like this) |

Breakfast was served 2h15 prior to landing, again, quite rushed with heaps of time left to do absolutely nothing before landing. How was the quality of all the meals? Lunch (lamb) 8/10, Mid-flight snack (dim sum) 7/10, Breakfast (omelette) 5/10 Did the cabin crew continuously top up the beverage of your choice throughout the flight? Yes Overall experience/any other comments Apparently one of the FAs was not feeling well, as I was told by the SD to whom I've mentioned less than attentive attitude (I am being diplomatic in saying this. At the end of the day, I do sympathise with him.). SD was absolutely fantastic and really tried to improve things. She did ask the FA to go to sleep, but he insisted on continuing with the service. Now, you do get one of these every once in a while, but I really felt bad for those who seemed to have been new to AC J. Same FA was walking around with his iPhone on about 5 min before landing, and immediately upon landing popped in a bluetooth earphone, which was certainly a first for me on any flight. |

Date: 2010-09-06 Cabin: J Status: Elite Pre departure Was check in quick and efficient? Checked in online, but the kiosk would not print my BP. Went to Exec counter where a very friendly agent printed boarding cards for me and explained she was making a note in the system that my cert had been pulled at LAX so there wouldn’t be a problem connecting at YUL Did you use priority security (if eligible) and if so, was it quick and efficient? None available? If there was it, was poorly signed. Did you use the Maple Leaf lounge and if so, any feedback in regards to service, food and drinks? Yes, stopped for a quick drink. The automatic hot beverage machine here is superior to those in YYZ ;) (hint hint). There was no snacks/food out that I could see... ? Was priority boarding offered (if applicable to your status) and efficient? Yes, it was well managed. If there was a delay, did the gate agent provide timely updates? The delay was poorly managed. I got an email about the delay @ 902PDT. At the airport, I was told that the flight was on time and to be ready to board at 1130 for a 1205 departure. I left the lounge @ 1130 to walk down to the gate. As I was leaving the lounge I heard some excited chatter on the 2way radio that the aircraft was literally touching down. Again, told everything was on time for 12:05 departure. I visited starbucks, bought a magazine, went back to the gate. PAX just starting to deplane. The PA in the area of gates 24/26 is horrible. The low fidelity automated announcements combined with gate agents yelling into the mic make it almost impossible to hear what is being announced. Boarding started at 1205, the departure time, again with no further mention of the delay. On board, we pushed at 12:23 without any mention of the delay. Admittedly, this is nicer than UA and their constant “OMG we’re late, hurry hurry huury, sit down, strap in, lets go lets go” announcements. Once airborne, Y PAX were offered one free alcoholic beverage due to the delay. It would have been nice if the lounge agent (who was very polite and otherwise helpful) simply told passengers: ”the inbound aircraft is delayed. I will call you once priority boarding has begun” Onboard - J cabin: Were the crew professional & well groomed? Yes. If there was a delay, were you provided with timely updates? No delay once boarded. Was the IFE activated on the ground? Yes, available before and after the safety video. Was a pre-departure beverage offered on the ground? Yes, no time for a refill. Just prior to landing she addressed each awake passenger in the J cabin to ask how the flight was for us. When deplaning she thanked each of us by name. It was a very nice touch that is certainly not the norm. |

Updates were reasonable but could have been better. Food ok. Wasn't that impressed with what is billed as a flagship lounge in terms of seating comfort and arrangement. Way too 'IKEA' for my liking. Very little input from Air Canada it seems. Was priority boarding offered (if applicable to your status) and efficient? yes but not that efficient due to the 'holding pen' at LHR gate If there was a delay, did the gate agent provide timely updates? No - IFE was a problem throughout the flight. (A330) Had to be rebooted 3 times and each time took over 20 minutes. Also had to sit through the forced commercials at the start of the movie each time. Programming - September edition of enroute magazine states that 'Robin Hood' is on the IFE. Our IFE was still programmed with the August programming that was present on my flight a week earlier. FA apologized. Map did not work for duration of flight. IFE was very lacklustre onm this flight. The wait for baggage was approaching 50 mins by the time I got mine and there were still lots of people waiting Overall experience/any other comments Overall experience was good but A330 seems to be having issues with the XM upgrades in terms of the IFE system. After I woke from a nap, FA asked if I would like anything. I said a coke would be great but she never returned! |

Was priority boarding offered (if applicable to your status) and efficient? Yes After handicapped small children as I think is appropriate. The gate agent, gentleman with gray / white hair only one at gate desk, was a pleasure to deal with, efficient, pleasant and aware of what was going on in waiting area. He gave us his full attention and pleasant efficient service. I was pleased to notice that he was very helpful with some people waiting in area with very small children, talking with and assisting them without having to be asked. Boarding was done quickly and efficiently. My daughter was unable to be upgraded as a late passenger just made the flight but agent had made me aware of the possibility and updated me so I was more pleased with the service than disappointed in the non-upgrade. I was again impressed with her professional service. I had a item lost on an flight a couple years ago and found the Toronto airport staff and lost in found telephone service unpleasant, seemingly unconcerned with customer inconvenience and slow. Very good for a mid length flight, pasta (my daughters) was a bit uninspiring, my chicken was quite good. Did the cabin crew continuously top up the beverage of your choice throughout the flight? As appropriate. Great service all around. Flight followed 8 domestic US and international flights in 16 days before mostly in J on US carrier and this flights customer service was best of all. The AC flight YYC - LAX, this return flight and others transpacific this year have all best better service than US carriers and have been very good to excellent for service. |

Was priority boarding offered (if applicable to your status) and efficient? Yes, Yes If there was a delay, did the gate agent provide timely updates? N/A Onboard - J cabin: Were the crew professional & well groomed? Yes If there was a delay, were you provided with timely updates? Updates provided (ground operations suspended for lightening). Timely? Maybe. Frequent? Not really. But it sufficed as I'm sure nobody really knew when we'd get rolling. Was the IFE activated on the ground? Yes Was a pre-departure beverage offered on the ground? Yes, OJ/Water. Due to approx 1hr delay at gate standard beverages were provided too. Did crew offer to hang your jacket? N/A Were newspapers & menus distributed and meal orders taken (Please specify when meal orders were taken - on the ground or in the air)? Everything done on ground (we had time after all) and by status. Did crew offer a hot towel prior to the meal service? Yes, Yes. The PA at gate 132 was way too quiet and many people couldn't hear the announcements. If there was a delay, did the gate agent provide timely updates? (From takeoff to all items collected) 1.5 hrs How was the quality of all the meals? Salad was horrible. Was simply made up of romaine lettuce that was mostly the stalk. There was hardly any visible cheese on any that I got a glimpse of. Did the cabin crew continiously top up the beverage of your choice throughout the flight? Yes Post departure If you have checked baggage, did it arrive within reasonable period of time? N/A Overall experience/any other comments The FA working the J cabin was very attentive and did a good job keeping our drinks filled as well as performing the meal service. The only complaint is that her knowledge of wine didn't even include knowing the varieties. When asked for a Sauvignon Blanc she just produced a blank stare and then proceeded to check the labels on all the red wines on the cart. A small amount of training for these FAs would make this part of the service seem much more polished. |
