In summer yes availability is very poor. But I found via Kimchi country in Economy a few dates in March. Some business also around. More likely to happen off season.

Am I missing something really obvious? I search for one-way flights btw.

check end of schedule when UA is not available or within the month when other airlines only do COVID schedules.

Is the return flight really required for check-in? What if you plan to leave the US by land or sea? You can just walk across the border into Mexico (I've done that in San Diego) or by taking a public transit bus (done in Detroit) into Canada.

I know you can get the ESTA without any specific travel plans.

While I can't answer that with absolut certainty, I do believe that our airline asked us to sumbit the return ticket as well prior to check-in in (and those were even booked with the same airline!), but I also wanted to point out, that the customs (immigration?) officer 3 years ago upon arrival at JFK most certainly did ask to see our return tickets, before letting us through (and he even got suspicious when he noticed that the exit point wasn't even in the same state as the entry point, so we had some explaining to do). (he got even more suspricious when he noticed som arabic writing/stamps on one the pages of my wife's passport from our trip to Dubai a few years before that ).
But yeah, for just 10.000 miles it isn't even worth the hussle to book it in such a way.

If you travel under the visa-waiver program, a "return or onward ticket" is required. A ticket on a cruise ship sailing one-way USA-Europe would fit the requirement. I'm not sure if an open jaw with a surface sector to Canada or Mexico is acceptable.

If you're a citizen of the U.S., or if you have a visa or green card, or if you're Canadian, you don't need to travel on the VWP and don't need a return or onward ticket.

Today I was able to to one way PRG-CDG-LAX one way on FB miles award in J to be able to get sushi LAX-LHR with no question about my travels from the US on ESTA. But, your flight from the US when you book OW to get there is imho pure luck on check in agent.

You are correct. I have since found a US immigration pamphlet that states that you must have a ticket to leave, and it can't just be to Mexico or Canada. Exceptions are made for people who have the right to stay in the US, Canada, or Mexico.

However, that is not a requirement to obtain the ESTA - you can get that without any tickets.

I made a reservation for LHR-HND-LAX in F in 2020; taxes and fees 279,98 €. Now the same route has 662,21 € for taxes and fees.

Go the other direction, I just did it last week. Flights are longer and taxes cheaper. Only the Star F lounge was a little disappointment.

Has anyone seen availability for the Hello Kitty airline? Was looking to/from LHR to LAX, but could do any of their four European spokes to The States, and in either direction. My guess is the issue is no availability on the TPAC leg.

Also I'm only familiar with their old interface, and now only get economy results. (Edit: Ah ok, that means biz is def not available on that day.)

How are people finding redemption opportunities in Business or First on *A Carriers that are redeemable using A3 miles?
Use the Air Canada award search to find availability and call in to A3 to make the booking by segment?

As Air Canada and Aegean availability is not identical, that would not work. Routing rules also differ, so something that is allowed with AC may not be with A3.

I'm searching for availability through the A3 website. Or Expertflyer.

Why make your life difficult ?
Open up the Aegean website, use the search tools there, and you can even book online.

I do, only to find availability is economy only every time I search. US-EU or ASIA - India
