The beginning of the pandemic was really interesting in this regard.
When LH wasn't flying to most US destination you could get FRA-HND-LAX/SFO to show one week out.
Don't know if anyone took advantage of this then.
I certainly didn't since I was too afraid of COVID

Yes, extremely limited availability, like 1 flight a day in economy on longhaul routes that I searched, but hopefully this is just an IT issue!

This has changed since the black Friday promotion went online and I told Aegean about it on the phone on the morning of the 28th. The agent (from what I could gather) could still see the "previous" availability, and told me I should be able to see it too, then attributed my observations to "many rebookings, because of covid, depleting award space"... Anyway, I am fairly confident the award search will be restored to its previous state after the BF offer ends...
I think the system temporarily (and for whatever reason) only displays one direct flight per route, if available...

Hi all,

I've run into the problem previously mentioned where the online award search system will only show nonstop flights, so I looked up equivalent itineraries on United and then confirmed each leg was available via A3's website. I found an itinerary consisting of LAX-YVR-YYZ-MAD with LAX-YVR in Economy and YVR-YYZ-MAD in business, all legs on AC. Given A3's stopover rules (limited to one stopover) as well as mixed-cabin rules, would this end up as being priced as three separate legs (i.e. 12.5k+21k+55k)? Or can I book LAX-YVR (12.5k for Y) separately from YVR-YYZ-MAD (55k in C) and then have them combine the reservations afterwards?

So if you need a stopover then you would have to book at least 2 tickets. If not the system will try and sell you on one stop options and only when it run out of those it will offer 2 stops. How it will calculate it is harder to tell as the question becomes where it puts the longer layover but as your staying in the same area it should be about the same but YVR-YYZ could be in economy as well.
To guarantee that routing you would need 2 tickets. It should come to 12.5+55 but that depends on there not being some weird married segment math going on.
On the combine reservation part they most likely won't combine them as it would trigger something in A3 system around getting a protected connection where one wasn't before.

So the award search engine is still seriously screwed. Anyone had any interaction with Aegean about this?

I did and in fact yesterday the search engine was working just fine! I was sure I was correct in my assumption, that this issue was somehow related by something they changed because of the black Friday sale, but since it is now again present, this must be a completely separate issue (makes you wonder, what on earth going on, I hope they're not making changes in the background for the worse, like devaluating miles again after BF or such).

Hey guys
just called them today and they said it’s a problem they try to fix it
for the time being you can book through their call centre but you have to pay the fee
I did book jakarta to Athens with TK one ticket for 65.000 miles in business class
the flight stops in IST and then I take different flight to Athens

So they admit that they have a problem but won't waive the service fee? I'd definitely argue that one.

They certainly replied to me today (per e-mail) that if I book via call-center and tell them that it's because of this issue, that they do waive the fee!

Came here to check in as I wasn't finding any award availability. Seems like the search is broken from the previous comments.
Is there a good alternative way to piece together what flights might be available (SQ flights using A3 miles) before calling to book? Thanks

United's award availability can be accessed without membership, however two things one should consider using it are, that only those saver (or super saver, whatever they're called) awards will be bookable with Aegean's miles and that there's a chance not all available saver awards will even be bookable with Aegean's miles (there's also a slight chance, that Aegean's phone agents will have access to more flight combinations than you can see at United's website). Disclaimer: Haven't used this method in a while and have no idea if the search at United has stayed as I remember it.

Sidenote: I am quite surprised that Aegean hasn't fixed the issue yet. It's been almost a week since it was last working and over 10 days if you don't count the few hours it was working in between.
It shouldn't be that hard to fix.

Thanks. Hopefully it gets fixed soon.

Are award tickets still fully refundable?

Also what are peoples thoughts on split bookings in the current environment. We have enough miles for two of the three of us to travel, so pre-covid we would have bought the two on miles, paid for a separate ticket direct (with SQ) but that seems maybe a bit risky now with covid. We are a family group that wouldn't want to get separated. The alternative might be to book one way on miles for the three of us, and one way paid for the three of us.
