maybe I did not get it what do you mean but my two UA award bookings give me as a A3*G free checked bag for HNL-EWR and even 2 free checked bags for EWR-GVA-VIE

romans yeah sorry, I was referring to my experience flying UA domestic economy on an A3 issued award ticket.
HNL is already a different geographical redemption, but if you still only got one bag and you hold gold status then it seems that route too doesn't offer a bag with the X award fare! On international legs you do get a bag, if I remember correctly (should have mentioned this before ), but the point is/was what baggage allowance the award ticket gets you, not what baggage allowance your gold status gets you!

Edelweiss (WK) redemption

I have run into an issue which I thought that some Flyertalk experts may be able to opine on. I am looking for two one-way reward seats from AMS to Calgary (YYC) in August for my in-laws. I have been searching on A3's search engine for months, and suddenly last week, two seats opened up on a flight with LX and WK (AMS-ZRH-YYC) in business class. I was about to book but I had to first check the exact spelling of my mother-in-law's surname. One day later, I returned to the search engine and found the availability was gone. I have searched the whole month of August, and there were no more reward seats on the ZRH-YYC segment (whereas, a day earlier, when I discovered the availability, there were numerous dates available in the month).

I can appreciate that availability can fluctuate, however I am still seeing availability on UA's search engine and on Expertflyer and think it is odd that all availability for the month of August should suddenly disappear. I rang A3 to ask if they could somehow check if there is an issue with the link with Swiss's booking engine, however the agent said they are no-longer able to raise any issues with Star Alliance issues internally; they can only look to the availability that we see on the website.

Has anyone encountered this issue before? Could it be an IT issue which could suddenly get resolved? Any advice would be appreciated.

Edelweiss is not a member of Star Alliance, so you won't be able to book seats with Edelweiss. It's very strange that you saw two seats on their search engine. It was probably a glitch which made these seats pop up for a short moment.

Hi,
I found a business class award ticket FRA/BKK by TG in Nov and tried to proceed it, but the next page after inputting the name, it came out "error" and back to the first.
I tried it for economy, then it came out "travel insurance" ad page.
They have no more C class award seat? or the web system error?
After checked it, no more business class seats are available but 30min later, available again.

Thank you so much for the swift reply. I guess that's it - a glitch. I was triggered by your comment and performed a search on the google machine. I learned that Edelweiss have an agreement with United Airlines which allows Milage Plus redemptions on Edelweiss, hence explaining the availability on UA's website.

Well I am 100,0% sure that I've seen Edelweiss award space availability with Miles&Bonus several times and I am (or at least I was until I read RedChili's comment) quite sure, that the availability exists thanks to Edelweiss being a direct subsidiary to Swiss Air and they share quite a few flight codes (I am confident both legs of the quoted itinerary had LX numbers next to them). The latter is also the case with a few other similar "subsidiaries" within the star alliance network, obviously not all, perhaps not even most (like I can't imagine a Scoot redemption, but then again Scoot isn't sharing any flight codes with Singapore Airlines, so it's not the same thing, my reference above is strictly to flights operated by the subsidiary but under a "parent airline's" flight number), but certainly quite a few. To me the surprize is that the availability vanished, not that it existed in the first place and I would guess the issue is probably one of many IT issues that the award search engine has been facing lately, like the lack of Air India awards or the complete lack of 2-segment-awards with Star Alliance partners for over 2 months (late November to mid-January) etc.
I really hate it when a phone agent tells me "we can only see and book what you see online", because we already know for a fact, that this is not true, so I'd try my luck again with a different agent. However if Edelweiss codeshare flights have been pulled from the system, even if it's due to an IT error, it is possible that even phone agents won't be able to perform the booking.
I think only an "insider" expert (an Aegean employee with an FT's passion ) will be able to shed some actual light on the matter.

Air Canada Rouge and Air Japan are subsidiaries that operate Star Alliance flights, so we can redeem on those flights. Edelweiss, Eurowings, Scoot, Anadolujet and Sun Express are not Star Alliance, and redemption should not be possible, in the same way as other Star programs cannot redeem on Olympic. Thai Smile is actually a connecting partner, but I've never seen available seats on Thai Smile.

Thanks.

I called A3 call center, and they said available however, they could not proceed to confirm it.
The operator asked someone in the office, then "Sorry, not available"
I checked the ExpertFlyer, but they say "Available" even now

I've been told the same. They can't book it though.

The reasoning given was that their system is not in sync with TG's system. Go figure.

Thank you.
That's pity.
I like TG C class but book TK C class as alternative way.

Can anyone confirm that, if I book the cheapest option (Flex) as an award ticket and A3 Gold member, that I will have +23 kg bag due to my status?
Do they differentiate their tickets from paid/award for this?

Thanks!

unusualtravelblog if you try to proceed with the reservation, at around step 4, where you can book additional services, you'll already see that your first 23kg bag is free of charge (provided you perform the booking while logged on). Gold baggage allowance applies as far as I know on all tickets, regardless if paid by cash or miles, on all star alliance airlines.

It doesn't extend to every *A journey, sadly (but does on A3).

Per the *A site:

Within Europe on "Light" fares offered by Lufthansa, Austrian & SWISS, "Check&Go" fares offered by Brussels Airlines and “Go light” fares offered by SAS as well as on “Seat” fares offered by Air New Zealand, the extra baggage allowance is not offered.
