Close-in ( T-24)?
A: Yes (it may appear to want to charge you but it should not

Q: What are the odds I will get a CPU?
A: Sadly, much lower than you probably want to believe. There seems to be slightly better odds on typical vacation routes--e.g., CUN, MCO, FLL, etc.

Q: I checked in exactly at T-24, and my name was #1 on the upgrade list. A few hours later, I'm suddenly #10 on the list! What gives?
A: This post gives a good explanation why. Basically, those with higher upgrade priority checked-in after you, and they be placed above you on the upgrade list. The harsh reality is that you only have priority only above non-rev travelers.

Q: I'm Marriott Titanium Elite, how do I get my Premier Silver status?
A: Go to https://mrrewardsplus.com/en_US/

Q: If I requalify as a Marriott Titanium Elite, do I have to renew my complimentary Premier Silver status every year?
A: Yes

Q: How can I get a United MileagePlus Presidential Plus Card?
A: Sorry, it is no longer offered.

Q: I qualified for Premier Silver this year (2016). The expiration date on the app says 1/31/2017. Shouldn't it be 1/31/2018?
A: The expiration date will automatically update to 2018 in 2017.

My first upgrade

I was booked in Economy on the 6AM direct flight from MCO - SFO on Tuesday 9/15.

I checked-in at about T-22 and already had my upgrade assignment.

Hopefully it lives up to the hype.

Is this a glitch or something to do with having booked the ticket when I was *G?

I'm curious, because I have an upcoming flight next month EWR-ZRH-MXP on LX. Will I have *G for that flight, assuming I'm still Premier Silver by then? I planned to save my United Club pass for that trip, but I'd use it sooner if I know I will be *G traveling internationally.
This is a good question, I wonder what the rules/experiences are for UA/Star Alliance status - can someone answer? I had the same experience last year when I fell to Silver from Gold. In CDG I was able to use the lounge as *G but I was Silver with UA (I also had Business class tix which I think is what they used to let me in). My tickets were also purchased while I was still UA Gold. I chalked it up to slow updates from one system to another. This was in June; I went from UA Gold to Silver that year.

It doesn't, but it's still nicer than sitting in back.

Yes it was. The early departure and duration of the flight made the experience pretty nice.

Rookie Question

Hi all,

I am new to this forum and have little knowledge compared to the rest of you regarding mileage/awards. Just as a quick background, I have been traveling the last year on Air Canada from Atlanta to Toronto for work and have been using my United number to accumulate mileage. I wish I knew more about maximizing my rewards from the start, but that ship has obviously sailed. I am getting off the road next week and working in Atlanta and have accumulated the following towards Premier Silver:
15,680 PQM
22 PQS
$3,400 PQD (achieved)

My question is, what would be the easiest, most cost-effective way though year end to go about achieving Silver status for 2016? Thank you for your help, as I truly am a rookie at this whole thing.

Status is pretty much, you have to fly it thing. Each year you start all over from zero and then to make the threshold. If your normal travels does not support the needed levels then you need to decide if the extra expense of "status"/"mileage running" is worth it.

You need to provide a little more info on what you think the issue will be for you.

Best best is a TPAC fare to SE Asia. You should be able to do it for around $750-800. There's also lots of good deals out of YYZ

Hm, looks like I clicked on the wrong thread, but since I'm here .......

If Silver is all you want, that is a no brainer @:-)

You need 30 PQS, so only 8 more segments, which means TWO round trips with a connection.

UA regularly attacks AA and DL hubs, and I think you know where you're flying from

Just book a same day flight, say ATL-IAH-DFW-IAH-ATL, spend the day in planes and airports, and voila, 4 segments. Rinse, lather and repeat. 8 segments and :-: Silver :-:

Maybe other airports, I only monitor places where I fly from, but you should be able to do each flight for well under $200, maybe even just a Benjamin.

Thanks so much! Yeah, I know there isn't too much that comes with being a Silver member. I just know I won't be flying anymore for work through the end of the year and figured I would at least try to capitalize on the travel I have already done all year. Plus, honeymoon in 2016..not sure where we are going, but the status won't necessarily hurt. Maybe won't help, but can't be a bad thing I suppose!

Well, there were those reports of Tens of Dollars Upgrades offered to Kettles that elites never saw, but I haven't read about that as much lately.

I'm guessing since you have a PQD requirement you're based in ATL? If you did a mileage run to SE Asia you'll be set.

Yup..based in ATL. Gona go forward with the ATL-IAD-DFW and back twice. Mileage run to SE Asia seems a little too aggressive for a newbie to this like myself lol
