Close-in ( T-24)?
A: Yes (it may appear to want to charge you but it should not
Q: What are the odds I will get a CPU?
A: Sadly, much lower than you probably want to believe. There seems to be slightly better odds on typical vacation routes--e.g., CUN, MCO, FLL, etc.
Q: I checked in exactly at T-24, and my name was #1 on the upgrade list. A few hours later, I'm suddenly #10 on the list! What gives?
A: This post gives a good explanation why. Basically, those with higher upgrade priority checked-in after you, and they be placed above you on the upgrade list. The harsh reality is that you only have priority only above non-rev travelers.
Q: I'm Marriott Titanium Elite, how do I get my Premier Silver status?
A: Go to https://mrrewardsplus.com/en_US/
Q: If I requalify as a Marriott Titanium Elite, do I have to renew my complimentary Premier Silver status every year?
A: Yes
Q: How can I get a United MileagePlus Presidential Plus Card?
A: Sorry, it is no longer offered.
Q: I qualified for Premier Silver this year (2016). The expiration date on the app says 1/31/2017. Shouldn't it be 1/31/2018?
A: The expiration date will automatically update to 2018 in 2017.

I was upgraded in both directions of my IAD-CLT RT this weekend. It certainly helped that the outbound was an E175 (with 12 seats in F) and not until 10:30 on a Friday night. This morning's flight was a bit more surprising as it was a CR7 (only 6 seats in F) and a Monday morning flight.
So I think I've figured it out: Fly at off times from a United hub to an OAL hub that's within reasonable driving distance

I had decent success back as silver getting upgraded IAH>CZM, IAH>DEN, DEN>JAC. The vacation routes are about all you can expect to maybe get.

But only got a couple of drinks (not even a snack box) on such a short flight
For the longest time FC was wide open, but in the end only 3 u/g to IAH, and THREE GS boarded this A320.
Maybe it's proximity to Amelia Island.
Glad I had a good E+ seat selected.

Earned Silver about a week and a half ago, but so far nothing in the mail or even an email about it. It does show the status online, and on the app, but that's it. Also, oddly, looking at the "card" on the app, it says that it expiries 1/2016 which doesn't seem to make sense to me.
Should I expect to receive anything before 2016?

They may or may not send you anything this close to EOY.
I would not worry about status being valid only until Jan 2016, that will change, and you will (OK, if it's like me may take a phone call or two before they finally ship one) get a Silver card in mail.

Looking for some recent data points on CPU success as a Silver in and out of SFO and LAX. Need an MR before the end of the year, and might as well try for an upgrade. Any routes with notable recent success? My aim will be for a Saturday day/night, which could include a redeye.

Woot woot! I received my materials about a week ago.
So, I'll be on an IAH-MCO flight on a Wednesday morning. For F it shows: 3 booked, 1 upgraded, 12 available. Flight is almost full (I'd say a bit more than 3/4). Do you think I hold a chance of getting an upgrade? I don't want to hold any false expectations.
EDIT: Flight is two weeks-ish out.

**A rough average of folks who won't split reservations or have been assigned bulkhead seating, but do not qualify for CPUs.

No Premier Silver cards since 1 July 2015
I am slightly disappointed for nostalgic reasons (to add to cards from years gone by), but I suppose UA needs to save every dollar it can.
The card would certainly mean more to me, however, than the flow of junk mail UA and Chase send my way.

As a new Premier Silver through Rewards Plus, I just found this out.

Last year Delta got rid of cards for Silver Medallion members and this year United gets rid of them for Premier Silver members. I'd laugh but such parroting is hardly funny anymore.

To be utmost honest, I'm surprised that they are giving away a completely meaningless luggage tag that most premier's already have (and is not essential for travel at all), but they are phasing out the cards, something that I've needed on multiple trips that I've taken this year, and since I don't have a smartphone, a paper print-out just seams kind of "fake".
