I wonder what are the odds that any PL opens in early 2022. Work is allowing me to fly TK out of the country in January but being based in LA, it's a toss-up between whether *A will open or PL, or none at all. Also taking a family member with me so I'd be open for routing through another UA hub too if a PL is open there by then.

Also on the note of *A, is there any dedicated forum or thread for the *A lounges? Not sure where to inquire or check out what's the status of those lounges.

While I wasn't thinking about a Travel Bubble specifically, I guess that works as well.

Another thought: Even though the USA is the epicenter of the world for the bugger, it is also a frontrunner in getting it's people vaccinated. Without doing much research, it appears that the US has more people vaccinated than any other country (pure head count, not a percent of population). Crunching some basic numbers, if the current trend continues, we could be 50% fully vaccinated by Mid-July and closer to 75% by the end of September. It is possible, possible, that we could redeem ourselves to the point that other countries will welcome us.

Keeping this Polaris Lounge related, more countries welcoming us means more international travel, which creates a better case for reopening a Polaris Lounge or two.

I guess since noone knows, I'll take a slightly contrarian view. I see things rapidly evolving over the summer and things morphing into a UK like situation. Currently testing/quarantine are required, but as things improve, I can see waivers for those who show proof of vaccination or a positive antibody test. This will cause an uptick in traffic which hopefully will put a little pressure on the airlines serving those markets to up their game. Who knows?

International business pax... Not to nitpick but it helps you remember how Mexico & Canada get you in, being marketed as Business Class.[/QUOTE]

Yeah I knew that. I’ll edit it. Thanks

Star Alliance - FT Forum
There are various threads on the individual *A lounges including a dated LAX - TBIT Star Alliance Lounges open now ?

For general information, use *A Lounge Finder

Star Alliance's lounge finder site shows LAX closed (it is closed).

https://www.staralliance.com/en/loun...s%20Angeles%20

Other lounges can be queried. I'm unsure how timely they do updates, but on LAX specifically I'll be a bit surprised if they re-open soon. January 2022 is hard to guess about.

Yeah the *A lounge will definitely be closed currently, and I don't anticipate it will open until Fall/Winter at a minimum but I'll keep monitoring the thread thanks for that.

Thanks for the link to the forum and thread will keep monitoring these. Hopefully either the *A lounge or a PL opens somewhere by then.

Boom lifts are moved.

I spoke briefly with the nice chap standing out front. I did not find out why he or the lady were standing there, but he said they are watching international flight counts (or maybe passenger counts) and targeting or hoping re-open in fall.

"My good man, pray tell, what is today's count and will the Polaris Lounge be reopened?"

"One, two....hmm, nope. Not yet."

Thats promising, did they say anything about the PL lounges being opened on a per airport basis or all PL lounges at the same time. Hopefully they are also considering non-UA lounge users in their count. I know most of the other guys are at T5 (I think??) but like some of UA's JV partners like ANA or LH which I believe depart from the UA terminal

Re-read fumje 's quote. I also read it the way you did at first but the second time I got it. They were standing there (who knows why because fumje said he didn't find out). And in response to the question about whether the PL will open the person opined that "they" (the bean counters) are watching international flight counts...not sitting there counting passengers as they walk by. AKA, when the bookings go up and demands warrants it then the PL will open.

Also tells me forget about the summer - it's a lost cause.

Thanks, yeah sorry I wrote that quickly and maybe it came across a bit goofy. They are looking at the flight counts over time, and the trends (key word I did not mention) are that they'll meet their threshold in the fall. But we all know everything can turn around again, so that's obviously not a promise. Implicit in that — indeed seems like no hope for summer open.

Sounded like this was ORD specific, so I would guess all the other hubs are doing their own tallies and soft targets. LH and NH do both use T1, so hopefully they include those. From my anecdotal observation, before the pandemic they definitely had a lot of those passengers visit the lounge.

Very generally, I would guess that West Coast PL lounges will open when demand to Asia/Oceania picks up significantly, while the others are probably more dependent on flights to Europe. Definitely promising that they're saying ORD is on track for fall, although that also makes me think the chances for the SFO lounge opening before next spring are infinitesimal

IAH is a little harder to figure. Pre-pandemic UA had 12 Polaris-marketed flights out of IAH: two to Asia/Oceana (NRT, SYD), five to Europe (2x LHR, FRA, MUC, AMS), and five to South America (GIG, EZE, GRU, SCL and LIM). As far as I know, FRA/AMS and all the South America flights are flying but with limited frequency and mostly dismal C loads. The rest have not resumed. A few months ago I thought the South America flights alone could justify re-opening but that's clearly not the case, so it's anyone's guess which mix of flights and loads (including *A partner flights on LH, BR, CA, TK, NZ, NH and SQ -- only LH, BR, TK and NH have partially resumed) will justify the re-opening.
