The DW just flew on one of these for the first time last week. When I picked her up and asked the ritual question about how her flight was, she exclaimed that the first leg (CAE -> IAD) was one of the most uncomfortable flights she ever experience. I told her, welcome to the Devil's Chariot, United's new short haul torture tube. Unfortunately for us, it seems that Air Wisconsin, is starting to become the standard carrier for our flight to/from South Carolina. I see them on most of the flights to/from GSP and CAE.

I think so, with the key provision being a short-term, renewable contract. Kirby stressed the fact that UA is able to exit from the flying pretty easily.

I used to fly the Q-400s alot from YYZ->EWR and the noise aside, the seats were at least comfortable, especially after they put in a FC on them. Since I was a 1K back in those days I generally always got upgraded on those legs, especially as I would hit the first flight of morning, so I could get a full day of work at the EWR UA Club before flying back to Houston.

My Dash 8 from YYJ to YYC was much more comfortable than the last SFO-YYJ.

It's not just <1hr flights. Looks like I'll be stuck for 3 hours of misery on a CR2 from PWM to ORD.

A Q400 is better compared to an aircraft of similar size and category, e.g. CR7, E75, etc. In that case I think the Q still falls short.

I did not know that they had CR2s on 3 hours flights. I guess that I'm lucky then that my 27 flights in CR2s in the 16 months since I joined UA were on a puddle jump that sometimes can be made in 18 minutes wheels up to wheels down. In the worst case scenario it's 30 minutes. But sometimes the taxiing is very long.....

UA even premerger used to run CR2's COS-SFO, and then finally dropped the flight years ago. Demand was high, but whatever. UA seems to love this aircraft despite it being the worst one in the industry as far a customer opinions go.

UAX Update
Seatmaps have been removed from united.com for the Q200, Q300, and E35. All Q200 and Q300 have been removed from the fleet. Please note that the ERJ-135 is still performing fill-in routes for the E45 out of IAH for the time being.
