What's in Asia that's worth so much trouble ferrying it instead of doing maintenance Stateside?

The question is why this E175, with over 100 earlier deliveries to UAX would need international maint.

763:
N652UA entered VQQ 2790/26Feb, that's 3 763s currently in VQQ.

I've been thinking about this for hours, and for the life of me, I cannot come up with any logical reason for this. The fact that Seth posted speaks volumes, as it appears everyone is confused.

OK, I tried, but I just couldn't resist:

Because the E-175 isn't ETOPS-certified, silly.

Looking at Flightware's position only data it landed in Xilinhot, China. TBD if this is another fuel stop or if it is the final destination.

According to a Bloomberg article about this, Embraer leased the aircraft from Mesa as a demonstration for a potential Chinese buyer of E175s.

And here I thought UA was testing a potential China-Hopper route where it would be a nightmare to try to use instruments to upgrade.

UA Flying Express to China

It appears UA is testing out new E-175 Express service from COS-HET (Hohhot, China)

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...-indiana-jones

Actually EMB leased it from UA to show to a potential Chinese buyer.

This makes me curious, does this happen often? and Wouldn't it has been easier and cheaper for EMB to fly executives from that airline (in first class)to the US or Brazil to show them the jet vs flying it to China?

If you look upthead, you will see photos now that your post / thread was moved into existing discussion.

As for flying execs, maybe they expect a private jet, maybe it's a matter of visas, maybe they just don't want to fly.

Gerry Laderman's presentation at the JPM conference yesterday gives some insight on United's fleet renewal plans over the next 10-15 years. In reading this, I am quite confident that the A350-900 will be a part of the United fleet and he makes clear the A321neo is very much on the table.

Interesting reading. It's good to see UA is considering the CS100/CS300.
