Currently a 788, so the capacity increase is only from the end of May through the end of October.

Big enough that UA started the route a couple years ago with 3x weekly, quickly went to 7x weekly, and now LY is starting the route 3x weekly on their 789 in November.

Figured UA was trying to scare off LY, but now UA is only putting the 77W on the route for the peak summer season and going back to the 788 for winter. The odd part is that LYs 789 has all aisle access J class while UA will be competing with a 2-2-2 J class.

That was the initia thinking of UA putting the 77W on this route (to have a competitive J product), but UA apparently doesn’t scare anyone these days when it comes to competition...

How do you know what the rationale was? Maybe it was simply increased capacity for the summer travel season.
Is Israel a business destination with paid C class travel, or primarily a leisure/tourist/family destination?
This could simply be the winter capacity. At least UA is maintaining daily service.

Yes there's quite a bit of tech and venture traffic between Israel and the valley. That was generally understood to be the driver for this route.

a ton of adtech companies, mobileapp networks, and martech companies. I don't see a slowdown anytime soon as they represent a large part of the market

While most ( with exception ) of the ULH routes are only 1x daily, EWR-TLV is 2X daily. I always thought this was justified because there weren't any other TLV flights on the UA system. I am quite surprised that UA has been able to almost double their capacity to TLV from 534 daily seats ( 2 sCO 772s ) to 999 seats ( 2 773s and 1 sCO 772 ) in less than a two year period.

TLV was COs most profitable route. Not surprising that with an SFO hub and the AA/US/TWA nonsense that led to them ending their TLV service that UA could take advantage.
I'm only surprised that UA is competing against a resurgent LY with a 788 from SFO after going 77W for the summer.

I'd wager that UA could pull off ORD-TLV as well. Though LY has their eyes on that route as well once they start getting their 788 deliveries.

UA competes for corporate business on price and network, not product quality.

That's how they've managed to succeed on SFO-SIN, despite offering an inferior product to SQ's.

Based on the comments about J class seating on LY 787 see https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/show...&postcount=218 its not clear who will have the better J class seating. I am quite satisfied, with the 787 on UA, at least until next week when I will try the 77W for the first time.

UA has the connecting traffic out of SFO most LY traffic will terminate in SFO, in addition UA holds many corporate contracts in the Bay Area so I doubt they are super concerned about LY's entrance.

SFO-TPE Losing Polaris

Just tried to book SFO-TPE first week in November. Looks like that route is losing the 777-300ER and being downgraded to 777-200 without Polaris. Anyone know why? Where is that 777-300ER being redeployed?

Sad news! The change seems to start October 27, 2018, with 3 class B777-200 with 2-4-2 seating in C!

It could be a placeholder. SFO-NRT/PEK/FRA/LHR all show 772 in November. Only SFO-HKG shows 77W in November.

EWR-FRA/TLV also have 77W.
