UA155 (GUM-HNL eastbound Island Hopper) canceled on 1/7 leading to the cancelation of UA154 (HNL-GUM westbound Island Hopper) for the flight commencing from HNL also on 1/7.

Both 844 (GRU-ORD) and 99 (MEL-LAX) had up to 12 hour delays for arrivals today. 844 is another 777, but 99 is the Dreamliner.

UA/99 delayed because LAX-MEL UA/98 was late 11:12 for MX -- leaving LA at 10:16am vs. 10:30pm (an overnight delay). I wonder how they handled that at LAX... were pax sent to hotels overnight? Or, was it a creeping delay leaving folks in the terminal (all closed down for the night) waiting and waiting?

Flight 98 that departed yesterday morning used aircraft 3950, which had just arrived from MEL (on time). I suspect that UA's MEL flights are being disrupted because 3951 is apparently still out of service. I'm just thankful our flight to MEL 12/25 was on time, and our return on 1/6 was as well. Guess we got lucky compared to others.

1/7 UA 2078 ORD-HKG (N227UA) which was the extra sector from the mechanical delay on 1/6 just returned to gate and now is showing a maintenance delay.

New estimated departure is 1245 with arrival into HKG at 1936 (+1) and it looks like UA 896 HKGORD on 1/8 which was initially delayed is now cancelled.

I was just thinking the same thing.

I don't know if this is weather related or what, but the mobile app is saying flight crew availability.

1/7 UA 895 ORDHKG (N220UA) is now delayed until 1600 and arrival into HKG at 2119.

The tag flight UA 895 HKG-SIN on 1/8 is still showing as being on time as they are planning on using the frame from UA 2078 ORDHKG assuming it gets out.

...
Sounds like it needs to be re-crewed due to the initial mechanical delay.

I think maybe you have this one confused with UA 2078. The original scheduled departure time of 1320 hasn't even passed yet for UA 895 ORDHKG and the frame just arrived about 50 minutes ago.

You're right, I am confused! Wonder if the cancellations of the last couple of days has impacted crew availability although it's pretty early in the month to have exhausted reserves. Maybe a crew member called in sick and the later departure time is needed to get that person to the airport.

UA2078 might finally be leaving

United Flight 2078
Status: Delayed due to operational difficulties (Departed Gate 5 Hours 45 Minutes Late, taxiing to runway)
"operational difficulties". one could argue this applies to any plane painted in UA livery.

From what I have been told, the last reason is the one that will show up on the app regardless of the initial delay. So say there was a mechanical delay, then weather, then ATC, the flight will show up as delayed due to ATC.

This caused me to look up the flight we took last night, 6219; DEN-COS. The first 75 minutes of the delay was because of a late inbound aircraft, but the next 58 minutes of delay was mechanical, as we had a flat tire that the tug somehow punctured during pushback. The reason shown on the flight status page is only showing the late inbound aircraft.

The saga continues...

Looks like the flight is now scheduled to depart ORD at 1645 and is going to divert to SFO with an estimated arrival time at 1854. From there the same frame will continue onto to HKG with an estimated departure at 2000 and arrival into HKG at 0231 (+2).

I am guessing a combination of needing to refuel and or recrew in SFO.
