1/11/2015 UA 855 B767 LIM to IAH cancelled due to aircraft maintenance

1/11/2015 UA 880 B777 NRT to HNL cancelled due to operational disruptions that are impacting flight operations. Hopefully someone has more on this one. Looking at delta, they got both there NRT to HNL flights out on time.

1/11/2015 UA flight 919 B777 LHR to IAD cancelled due to aircraft maintenance

1/11/2015 UA flight 907 B777 ORD to FRA cancelled due to aircraft maintenance

1/12/2015 UA flight 906 B777 FRA to ORD cancelled due to aircraft maintenance
I understand that cancellations can ripple through the system but how can UA be doing so much worse than DL or AA? They all fly more or less the same planes, under the same maintenance regulator, but you'd think UA keeps getting the lemons from the production line.

So I'm giving myself a gold star here :-:
Yep, I happen to be a victim of this cancellation, missing important meeting in Atlanta Monday morning. Yes, I should have planned better etc, but if you only get two weeks to be back home after 6 months, you try to squeeze out every single day.

UA has rebooked me on the 1.20 AF to CDG and then to ATL so arriving at 12.15 PM instead of 9.16 AM Monday so not too bad as the cancellation had be arriving at 9.16 AM the next day i.e. Tuesday.

Sitting on U969 right now. Not cancelled but pushed back an hour late due to an inop fuel pump indicator. Add in the headwinds and a parking spot in Terminal B with a connection in C, and I am missing my connection. Already rebooked on the next flight, but it's five hours later. And this seems to be a decent outcome judging by the rest of this thread....

what are the rules?

UA 3858 cancelled on Jan 12 (YYZ-EWR) due to ATC (NBthat is a new one for me!) I know the NYC skies are busy, but why the 11:30 am departure? Every other turn is business as usual.

The weird thing is when called the 1K desk, I asked to be re-routed on other Star Alliance carriers:

YYZ-LAX (AC) - NRT (ANA) - SIN (UA)

I was told no, we cannot re-route on more than one alternate carrier! So I asked for UA 032 (LAX-NRT) and again I was refused!

So what exactly is the policy on re-routing as a result of a UA cancellation?

I thought they might have a chance of making it the rest of the day without another international flight cancellation due to MX, then this popped up;

UA 803 B777 NRT - SIN 1/12/2015 cancelled due to aircraft maintenance.

Bad day for the guy in post 184 who might have also been on that flight? Maybe not, perhaps the day after.

Today's UA69 (1/12 ARN-EWR) at first was 1:30+ delayed, pushed back, then returned to the gate after ~30 minutes, then again pushed back after an hour+ to be currently delayed by 3:59 on arrival (flight now enroute)...

Greetings - Dirk

4 hours for deicing??? Sounds like another lie to me. ARN is really efficient at this.

UA 981/12 KWI-IAD delayed for nearly 2 1/2 hrs. Flight arrived 20 minute early from BAH. Boarding time was supposed to be 12:15, at 12:30 they announced that there will be a five to ten minute delay because "the counters are still open". What does that mean? We board at 12:45 and it is announced immediately that because of a broken "belt loader" there will be a 15 minute delay. There were about 60 pax on board at the time. At 1:15 the pilot announced that "obviously the take off time has passed" but he will keep us posted. Meanwhile more and more pax keep trickling in. "Our customer service center in Denver will take care of everyone misconnecting. You will be put on the next available UA flight or another carrier. Nothing to worry." Meanwhile it is hot and there is no water service. More and more pax are boarding, slowly. "We apologize for the hot cabin, as soon as the engines are started, it will be more comfortable". At 1:30 someone announces that "we are waiting for 8 more passengers". The plane is getting fuller. The gate agent moves some people he knows from E+ to Biz, I overheard the conversation. There is still boarding going on. From the flight deck " We apologize for the delay because of the belt loader. We have closed the cargo doors and are just waiting for 6 more passengers and then we are ready to go". This was so unorganized and no honest answers. They kept boarding in the slowest fashion possible until nearly 2:30 a.m. when the flight was full and we arrived 2 1/2 hrs late with most connections gone. UA shows "delay due to aircraft maintenance".
Worth asking for compensation?
I am grateful to the 1K line as well as the IAD lounge staff which were so helpful to eventually get us where we needed to be.

You won't get much compensation. I had a 7 hour mex-related delay yesterday and was offered 5k RDMs.

You can thank consolidation for that and also, UA, they simply couldn't dole out compensation like it was candy due to all of these delays and cancellations, they would go out of business.
