You can always upfare for free via SDC.

Did the $700 include a change fee? Or were you on a refundable / full fare ticket?
No, it didn't. Which made the $156 offer so enticing.

At least now I know for sure what to do if my UG doesn't clear before OLCI. Check in ASAP and check out the UG offer.

NRT-IAD
C - F
$4,999

Seems to be my standard offer lately and got my same response - NO!

Edit: Now at Narita - current offer is $989 for C -> F. Tempting as flight is packed and I have aisle seat in the 4 across section (a.k.a. the coffin zone) but not going to bite...

So you got the upgrade? Thanks, UA.

Is this a call in method?

I have not seen how you would do this on the app or .com.

IN != upgrade space

Sounds like Kacee snagged IN space when they finally opened up the buckets

I should have checked the bible: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unite...uckets-ua.html

IN - Elite (Plat/1K/GS) Saver Business or 2-cabin First Award

How did you get the IN space Kacee? Were you waitlisted?

In sequence, for those trying to follow along at home:

This flight was booked 16/28 in BF at T-24. Six of the BF seats have disappeared. No one is getting upgraded.

Ultimate one pax was upgraded.

I booked a friend in saver economy (XN). At T-3, I saw an open saver business seat and snagged it for her (booking into IN). This is the payoff for checking availability obsessively. I did not look to see if R opened as well. But only one pax ultimately got upgraded, despite BF booked 16/28 at T-24.

Yes you can call to do that. You can also try on .com, but that's not reliable. The App is not going to give you that option.

Lax-las. $39

737-900

Somehow 10 people were upgraded/CPUd and I wasn't one of them. This year will go down I the record books as the worst experience ever as elite. Looks like all instruments will expire.

Yes, I accepted the $39 UPC, who wouldn't? Booking class Z to boot so I believe I get 150%EQMs. I would whine at to the mere idea of such a low buy up but what I don't understand is how 10 people got the CPU and I didn't. I booked about a week in a half out on a decent booking class. LAX-LAS earlier this year several times is the reason I am 6/100 on CPUs and not 1/100. (The 1 being SFO-SEA).

Not sure I understand: Isn't it possible that most of the 10 took the $39 upgrade before you took it? Is it possible to tell who was upgraded due to a CPU vs a payment?

There is no check mark when you buy up, even a measly $39.

For the record 13 check marks*

I didn't know that! What type of fare were you on?

Just to close the loop on this (double) upgrade to GF, LHR->SFO:

Yes, the miles posted as they should for my "A" fare, and I even got full PQD's for the amount originally paid plus the upgrade. I wasn't expecting the latter.

That's consistent. If the buy-up changed the fare basis (which yours did), it's cost of ticket rather than an upgrade fee, and will thus count as PQD.

How was the soup?
