2014 Upsell Offers to Business/First (UFC/PCU) Questions/Discussion (Paid Upgrades)

You have the Premium Cabin Upsell (PCU) which will net you extra PQM's and can be done at purchase or anytime before checkin if you are prompted. This will book into a business/first bucket.

Upgrade For Cash (UFC) is done at checkin (online, counter, lounge, gate) and will NOT give you the extra PQM's.

To make it easy to follow simply list:

what route
original fare bucket
price offered
PCU/UFC?
Where it was offered/accepted

Accept it or deny it?

For easy reference here are the 2012 & 2013 threads:

First trip of the year.

what route: ORD<->SFO
original fare bucket: G
price offered: $694 each way
PCU/UFC? PCU
Where it was offered/accepted: Online

Accept it or deny it? Deny.

Even though both legs of this RT are on a 772 (thus upgrade is from Y to lie-flat C) I wouldn't pay that. In addition, the upgrade price is more than the delta between my G fare and the fare for Z.

Regardless, there are only 2x more people in E+ than open C seats, so odds of a CPU look good.

What Route: RDU-ORD
Original Fare Bucket: X (Coach Saver)
Price Offered: $249
PCU/UFC? PCU
Where it was Offered: Online Check In.
Accepted? Hell No!

I can buy a RDU-ORD roundtrip on US for the price of 1hr30 in F on a 73G with no meal. The upgrade list is 11 deep so here's hoping for them that no one is dumb enough to take this.

what route GRR-FOE
original fare bucket W
price offered $235
PCU/UFC? UFC
Where it was offered/accepted emailed to me yesterday.

Accept it or deny it? Denied. The only segment with first class is ORD-GRR. About a 35 minute wheels up to wheels down flight. The other 3 are on RJ 145's.

What route? EWR-HAM OW on Saturday 7/5
Original fare: S
Price offered: $1225 to BF
PCU/UFC? PCU
Offered where? On UA.com, vs 20K + $550 co-pay but waitlist for BF

Haven't decided yet. Have requested 20K + $550 co-pay option. I'm *G but used UA miles from CC to request upgrade. What're my chances of getting cleared? Should I go for the PCU?

Advice appreciated.

20k miles buys a <700 mile domestic RT which could be worth several hundred dollars (e.g. recently got ITH<->ORD for 20k miles instead of $694), so the PCU price is in the ballpark, is guaranteed, and should earn bonus miles.

Hard to predict if you'll clear. *G won't help. If it's important to upgrade and you have the cash or can think of other things to do with the miles+copay, the PCU looks like a good value.
