Maybe I over-generalised. 8A and 8B are fine. I never sat in 8C.

Thanks all. I high-tailed it back to the exit row. The only drawback there is that the hot food items often run out by the time the service reaches mid-cabin. And while I'm still 1K, I want to get all of my meal entitlement!

We recently flew SFO-LAX in a DTV sCO 739 in 1EF. Row 1 only had one window per row. Do any other versions of the 739 have 2 windows in Row 1?

United flight 255 BOS-LAX in the 737-900 - Seat Guru says that United flies 3 versions of this plane. The "check version" link in Seat Guru doesn't do anything on my computer. How do I know from the website when I'm making my reservation which version this plane is?

Editing to add the seat map for my particular flight doesn't show a row 12 but all 3 versions of UA's 737-900 on the UA website do have a row 12.

Seems like you're seeing the generic map, which they will display until they have assigned a particular aircraft (one of the three versions) to your flight.

You will not know at the time of booking. 2-3 days, roughly midnight Chicago, will make a tentative assignment and that still may change before departure,

Your best move is to avoid seats in the first 3 rows or so before the middle exit doors and then to check about 2 days prior to travel.

Looking for opinions here to see if there is any difference between a bulkhead window like 8A or a Exit row window like 21F...do either give a little more leg room or ability to get uo? Thx

21F by far. 8A is a hard bulkhead in front of you (the mid cabin lav). 7F is peachy because there is no hard bulkhead on that side. Exit rows have a bit more legroom than E+.

I love 21F but it's worth noting that the lack of an armrest on the window side may be uncomfortable to some people (I haven't flown the 737 in 21F... this is an issue on the A319 for sure; I assume it's the same on this aircraft? The Airbus has something armrest-like on the exit door but it's too far forward, especially when reclining)

Tons of legroom though; still worth it.

21 A/F are a mess and indeed have a smaller armrest because of the door (it's not the same as the Airbus but still annoying). I would probably pick 7F followed by any regular E+ window, but if you really want the exit row go with 21C or 21D.

Yes, at check in, but you can only select them through United check-in, and they remain blocked to the GDS and other views of the seatmap.

Any UA channel (including the app) should be fine. My point is that you will still see the seats occupied on Flight Status or a new booking.

Seatguru says the last few rows of economy are narrower due to curvature of the fuselage, is this accurate? I like sitting in the last 2-3 rows of economy (I’d rather sit and wait for the plane to empty than deal with everyone and their bags, esp during COVID) but I don’t want a narrow seat. Also, I’m traveling as a couple—is selecting an aisle and window towards the back a good strategy to avoid getting a seat mate?
