I noticed that United has been hiding/blocking rows 14, 15, and 39 and sometimes 12 DEF on some of the 737-900 flights and then they make those rows/seats available about 48-36 hours prior to departure. Is there a thread or post that covers this topic? is it all about creating flexibility to swap to a 737-800 without having to reassign any seats?

Yes, 737-x00 - seatmap showing fewer F seats (such as only 8) ???
While much of the thread is about the front cabin, the variable solution in economy is also discussed.

Personally, I think you would be comfortable in 1F. If you think you need more leg room, you could move to Row 2 while being mindful that 2E may be claimed by a FAM (Federal Air Marshal) if the flight is manned/personned that way.

I'm 6'1 and flew in 1F two weeks ago. I found legroom to be restrictive, but not entirely uncomfortable.

It has more to do with the non-slimline 739 which might be completely gone by now, but yes it's to guard against swaps.

Under seat storage space dimensions for 737-900 Economy +

I have a flight tomorrow and taking my pup with us to Colorado via in cabin. The case I have is a tad bigger then the dimensions on the United website for in cabin but it's really flexible and can contort to fit under seats. I had no problems last time I flew with him via Southwest in a 737 so I wasn't sure if the United fleet is any different. I've been trying to find dimensions as I know it's a tad different depending on the plane model.

I will be sitting in a middle seat via economy plus.

You shouldn't encounter any equipment boxes and the like, and the seats are pretty normal.

The middle seat gets you the biggest space underseat storage space (vs aisle or window). Good move.

UAL replacing economy plus seats?

Though I fly with UAL weekly, I hadn't noticed that they removed economy plus seats in rows 12-15 of certain 737-900 aircraft and replaced them with regular economy seats which they charge a premium. I was looking on the seating chart for an LAX-SFO flight and noticed this configuration. Does anyone know if this is their intention for all their aircraft going forward, removing EP seats?

I know some 737s have a weird config of a few rows of normal economy within economy plus only on the right side of the aircraft. If that is what you saw then this has been around for awhile.

UA is not removing E+ seats from 739s, but certain configurations of 739s & 738s have a different number of E+ seats and the seatmaps will show the worst case configuration (rows 12-15 as E-) until closer to flight time.

There is a case where UA is remove E+ seats, they are being replaced with the Premium Plus / Prem Econ seats, but this is not happening for the 739s

DEN-PVR flt 537 and 1944 on 6APR, the 739 seat map doesn't match anything on ua.com or seatguru. Is that usual? Does this flight have seat back IFE?
