5 April 2018 -- UA started posting an "expiration date", appears to be at least 18 months after most recent activity (some are longer for unknown reasons)
also states
Some of your United®TravelBank Cash may expire on a different date than what’s displayed here. Please check your balance details for a complete history of your United®TravelBank Cash transactions and the expiration date for each amount.
Expiration had previously been in the T&Cs for some time (2 years of inactivity? but now is 18 months) and had stated an ETC would be issued if the funds did timeout. Unclear if that still applies.

The Gift Registry has been disabled since Fall 2017 (Sept?) (appears this may be related to a tax issue?)
As of 5 May 2018, it still states
We're sorry, our gift registry page is currently unavailable for maintenance. You can still use the funds from your gift registry to book travel during this time, but you will not be able to receive contributions or update your registry details. We expect the page to be up and running again in early 2018.
Around Sept 2018, wording changed to
We're sorry, our gift registry page is currently unavailable for maintenance. You can still use the funds from your gift registry to book travel during this time, but you will not be able to receive contributions or update your registry details.

Travel Bank funds now have EXPIRATION DATES

It looks like as of today, Travel Bank funds now EXPIRE. By my rough calculations based on the expiration date provided for my balance, it's 4 years and 6 months from the date of the last Travel Bank credit. Or maybe that is just for the initial expiration date and funds expire based on the date they were earned/deposited. Not great news, but the time frame should be sufficient for most to use their balances.

Perhaps this indicates some update coming on the Gift Registry in the near future as well... but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Interesting. I just checked my TB & the expiration date is 4/30/2020 & I earned a credit 3 days ago. So not sure what the expiry date is based on. I use my TB funds about once every 6-8 months though, so not really an issue for me.

My last entry was 7 Dec 2017 and expiration date is 31 Dec 2019; roughly 2 years from last entry date.

My expiration is 1/31/2022, and my last transaction was late Nov. last year (I can't recall using any funds since then).

Interestingly enough, there is an info. bubble next to the expiration date on the summary screen, and rolling over it makes visible the following text:

Balance expiration date

Some of your United®TravelBank Cash may expire on a different date than what’s displayed here. Please check your balance details for a complete history of your United®TravelBank Cash transactions and the expiration date for each amount
Going into my balance details though, says it all expires on the date above. Maybe there's been a change in T&Cs. I see a note that it expires after 18 months of inactivity, but I swear somewhere (maybe in T&Cs, maybe in FAQs somewhere), that it used to specify expired funds would be put into an ETC. Also a note now, I think its new, about a credit for 'certain US taxes', which is obviously related to the refunds folks have been receiving recently.

Looks like end-of-month, two years after the activity, but presumably with a grace period for purchases made prior to the addition of the expiration rule. It does not look like expiration will be extended -- instead, it will be rolling expiration. The TravelBank Balance Details page has a space on the left to show the expiration breakdown. Note the following information from the popup on the main account page:

Some of your United®TravelBank Cash may expire on a different date than what’s displayed here. Please check your balance details for a complete history of your United®TravelBank Cash transactions and the expiration date for each amount.

Interestingly enough, my wife’s expiration is 3/31/2020, with her last post from her Travelbank CC at the end of March.

Not it sure why I would have have much more time from my last transaction (4*•+ years) while my wife’s is just 2. Only thing I can think of is her account is new - probably opened in fall last year, while mine has been around since probably not long after the merger.

My cash now says it expires on 4/30/2020. Nice little unannounced change from UA...undoubtedly figuring this will save them some money by reducing deferred revenue, which falls on the liability side of the balance sheet.

(am I doing a good enough impression of how Scott Kirby thought about this? )

1/31/2023. More importantly, hopefully this is a sign that it will be up & running for deposits again soon ("early 2018")...

Hoping contributions get reactivated soon. This new expiration rule is annoying.

Interesting data points on this. My expiration date is 9/30/22 with my most recent deposit on 3/29/18. These are all over the place, but most seem to be 2 years or more

Seems like some sort of notification should be given. Here's hoping that funds will be like award miles, so that addition to and redemption from the balance will extend the expiry. (edit: not optimistic on that point, though.)

This is not an uncommon issue for tickets that have been split or rescheduled
. Easy to claim credit

I agree this is annoying and "cheap" by United.

But realistically how much of a problem will this be? I redeem any travelbank credits on the next booking I make, which almost certainly occurs more than once a year (I realize not all bookings are eligible). I have to assume most enrollees travel fairly frequently as well - that's the only way to make it worth it. So unless a lot of your travel is on codeshares/non-United or you regularly have other credits to apply (ETCs) that prevent use, it seems pretty likely you'll use the credits within 2 years anyway. And if you don't use them in the first year and it's time to renew . . . cut your losses and cancel.
