I agree this is annoying and "cheap" by United.
But realistically how much of a problem will this be? I redeem any travelbank credits on the next booking I make, which almost certainly occurs more than once a year (I realize not all bookings are eligible). I have to assume most enrollees travel fairly frequently as well - that's the only way to make it worth it. So unless a lot of your travel is on codeshares/non-United or you regularly have other credits to apply (ETCs) that prevent use, it seems pretty likely you'll use the credits within 2 years anyway. And if you don't use them in the first year and it's time to renew . . . cut your losses and cancel.

What's the prob with 2 years?
My date was 12/31/9999. It's now 2/28/2023.
I hardly think going from 5 to 2 years (if indeed that is the new policy) will matter for us; I bring my balance down to zero several times a year. It's the kettles it's gonna hurt.

United TravelBank Cash now expires!!
Just saw that travel bank cash now expires every 18 months. This wasn’t the case before (at least not explicitly stated). Check your accounts and balances more carefully and frequently.

I don't think this is new. What is new that it is showing the expiration date which is VERY useful indeed.
- Available balance:$141.88

Also, the wording in the detail on expiration seems to indicate that expiration of dollars could be rolling (I.e., $ deposited in one transaction might expire at a different time than those deposited at a different time). Once I get new deposits, I guess I can see - so far, the existing funds seem to expire at all the same time.
Yeah, seems to be varying timelines, and not sure why. I had separate posts above, but my wife’s funds - most recent activity in March - expires in March 2020. Mine, where my last activity was in Nov. - expires at end of Jan. 2022. The only thing, which is definitely only speculation - is that my account is much older (beleive I started in 2012, wofes just started late last year).

Mysterious $25 charge from United on my Chase card
Over the weekend I noticed two pending charges from United on my CSR, one for $1, and another for $25, both made on April 6. I knew that I had made no charges with United, and wondered if they might have preauthorized a charge for phone ticketing because I called in for help when the website would not let me accept a change in flight schedule. It didn't really make sense (especially because I never gave them my credit card number), but it was all I could think of.
Today the $25 charge was processed, and the $1 charge remains pending. The $25 charge has an 016 ticket number. I have no email receipt for the charge, and there is nothing in my upcoming itineraries.
I called United. The first phone agent I spoke to said that there is no record of the charge or ticket number, at least not that she could see. She told me I would have to request a refund online. I pointed out that this requires me to know what I am being refunded for (you have to pick from a list in a drop down menu), and I have no idea what the charge was for.
I asked for a supervisor. The supervisor told me that she could see no record of the charge and that I should dispute it with Chase, which I have now done. Chase told me that the charge was associated with a ticket in my name on April 7. They said the charge would be researched and that it was likely a "system error," whatever that means. Chase did not want to treat this incident as fraud, at least not yet.
I assume this will all be fixed, but I am confused by how this could have happened. I'm also baffled by the $1 pending charge. I usually see these from gas stations, but I don't recall ever before seeing a $1 preauthorization from an airline.
Any idea what could cause this? Do airlines do $1 preauthorizations?

I've had $1 tests from UA.
For the $25 charge, what are the 3 digits following the 016?

Could it be the UA.com club membership fee? Maybe you signed up last year and had it on auto-renew.

Logged in today to see an expiration for travel bank funds. I thought they "never expire"?

This is something new, I believe I read in another thread that after your expiry date if you didn't utilize all your funds US will issue an electronic certificate for the balance which needs to be utilized within one year (or a booking made with in that period)

Maybe this is not a new question but I couldn't find an answer right away. Can my family and friends use the fund in my United TravelBank account?
