United operates United Clubs in the USA and many international locations -- see United Club and Other United Lounges for a detailed list.

UA's partners and the Star Alliance operates lounges in some of the same airports and many others. See the *A Lounge Finder and *A Lounge Access Policies . Additionally, some airports have "contract" lounges, admission is airport dependent.

United also operates International Global First Lounges and Arrival Lounges. These lounges have different access policy, see the linked threads for more.

To have access to the UCs, you will need to fit into one of the following
  • Be a UC member -- either directly purchased or combined with a credit card (such as Chase MP Club card)
    * UC members can have 2 guests or guest their spouse and dependent children under 21 years - Note at non-UA *A lounges UC members are allowed only 1 guest.
    * The actual UC membership card @ UCs is generally not required if you have a UA BP -- since the UC membership is tied to the MP account
    * Same day BP on ANY airline (arriving or departing)
    * Spousal memberships are available as an extra cost option
  • Be traveling as *G member (see UA *G on domestic-only itinerary limitation) with departing *A BP showing your status while in any cabin
    * Can guest 1 traveler with a departing *A BP.
    * UA *G cannot access domestic UCs unless traveling on a *A international itin (within 24 hours - can be different PNR)
    * If non-UA *G but crediting to UA MP, you will need to present your non-UA *G card. There have been some reports of refused entry -- agents claiming you have to be crediting to the same program as you are requesting entry
  • Be departing that airport in *A International Business or International First (with BP)
    * International First passengers can guest 1 traveler with a departing *A BP. No guests for International Business.
    * UA has an expanded access policy that those traveling same day International Business or International First on UA operated flights can access UCs at any same day connecting airport
  • Premium transcontinental non-stop (EWR-SFO/LAX & BOS-SFO) business class traveler
    * Limited to origin and destination airports of the premium transcontinental flight -- does not include connecting cities
    * No guests
  • Have or purchase a UC one-time access pass
    * No guests
  • Have Amtrak Select Plus or Select Executive status.
    * 1 guest
    * Same day BP on ANY airline (arriving or departing)

When BP/ticket is required, it can be either a paid or award ticket.

United Club T&Cs

Common questions
Children -- Are they counted as a guest?
Anyone with an individual ticket is counted as a guest. Lap children (below 2 years of age) are not counted as a guest. UC members can guest their dependent family at UCs (but this will not work at other *A lounges).

Is Canada, Mexico, Caribbean, Puerto Rico (San Juan), .... international for UC access?
Yes
Travel to or from Canada, the Caribbean, Central America, Guam and Mexico are considered international itineraries for the purposes of United Club access.
What about Domestic First Class?
Domestic First Class is not provided with UC access. Unless you qualify based on some other reason, there is no access for paid or award domestic FC.

Can my guest stay if I leave the lounge?
Strictly speaking, no. Guests only have access when the sponsor is in the lounge. You have "responsibility" for the guest when they are in the lounge. Realistically, however, there is usually no problem with leaving a guest behind.

Can access to the UC be further restricted?
UA reserves the right to limit access including the number of guests at times of crowding.

Can I bring food into the UC?
Strictly speaking no. There may be local health & safety codes against this.

Can I guest 3 co-workers by using multiple access methods? Such as 2 via UC membership and 1 as *G international?
No -- you cannot stack access methods.

Can I access the UC on arrival and no forward *A travel or if departing on a non-*A carrier?
Maybe if UC member or UA *G on international itinerary or arriving on UC operated Polaris cabin itinarary (Alsoyou qill need to able to access to the UC location)
Starting 18 Aug 2016: United Club Access (including members) Only w/ Same-Day BP

The atmosphere inside the club is great even though LGA itself is a construction site by all means. Women in the club are stunningly beautiful, way out of my league.

To summarize, nothing for me there.

How is that different from other domestic clubs?

As an alternative, there is a Maple Leaf Club in the same terminal.

I don't disagree that Root Down is excellent, but Elway's is also a Denver restaurant (several locations in denver) with another location at the airport.

Hi everyone, first post here, but just a quick question in regards to an itinerary and club access. My wife and I will be taking the following trip in a few months..

SLC->DEN->EWR->POP .. Our two fare classes are United First from SLC-DEN and DEN-EWR, then we're United Business from EWR-POP. Over night flight from DEN-EWR so would love to access the club before we fly out to POP from EWR to grab a shower and refresh after flying since 3PM the day before. If I read United's website correctly than I do believe we do get access in EWR if we want to use it?

Forgot to add, paid fares, not rewards or anything!

Thanks in advance!

Yes, you can. As long as there is not a layover (>24 hours) in your itin. I have flown domestic legs followed by overnight layover before international leg. E.g. DEN-SFO-NRT. You get lounge access DEN-SFO. I think that with the pre-merger United it had to be "same day".

Thanks for the prompt reply!

We fly out of SLC at 3:15ish, arrive in DEN at 4:30, don't leave Denver until 7:40 and arrive in EWR at 1:15 AM.. Obviously the club won't be open until 4 or 5 AM, but to get in before we fly out at 9:15 would be great. All signs point to us being able to access it. Thanks again!

I just lost access to UC with Priority Pass, so I'm considering buying a UC membership. I have a few questions:

1. Do they send a plastic membership card?

2. Is there a virtual card that shows up in the app? If yes, can it be added to passbook?

I know (or think) that UCs can be accessed by simply scanning your United boarding pass, but I'm trying to figure out how I'd easily access UC if I'm flying on another airline from a terminal with a UC.

Thanks in advance.

Regarding #2: A virtual card is available in the United app. If you can add it to passbook I can't figure it out. The virtual card warns it's only good at United Clubs and not other Star Alliance lounges.

I have a United Club membership through the Chase Club Card and they did indeed send me a traditional plastic card. I also use the electronic card in the UA App which works great at United Clubs.

United gold - access to clubs?

Somewhat complicated itin going on here so bear with me

United Gold ( tho once this itin complete Platinum !)
*A Gold United

LHR->IAD BF - already have a guest - lounge access terminal 2
Hang around MD a few days...
then
BWI->ORD(stopover) in F ->YYC(Calgary) E+ (CPU) both on UA metal - can i get into the lounge in either BWI or ORD? is Canada considered ' international' ?

Return:
Air Canada codeshare to Toronto(stopover) in E - can i use an Air Canada lounge? at *A Gold?
Toronto->IAD in E+ ( no F seats on the plane (!)) - which lounge can i use in Toronto?

IAD->LHR as International and in BF, i have access to UC as a given and i can guest if anyone needs a pass in

2 itins are separate (LHR->IAD return BF )(BWI->ORD->YCC->YYZ->IAH) i cant see any point in combining them?

Bear with me, i am UK based and still trying to wrap my head around arcane United club rules. i have googled finding conflicting info.

As *G on interntional itin, you have access to any *A *G lounge at any airport part of the itin when departing the airport on a *A flight regardless of ticketed cabin.
Codeshares do not matter, all that matters is the flight operator.
And yes Canada is considered international.

See *A lounge access policy and select "Star Alliance Gold Customers Traveling in Any Class"

Thanks so much, i did look at that, and this is what i find confusing:

"United Star Alliance Gold customers may only access the United Clubs within the U.S. when travelling in conjunction with a Star Alliance international flight."

International Itin on UA F for domestic leg with E+ on international leg with a stopover on ORD to YCC - on UA metal does this mean i have to use another lounge or can i get into UC?

Return ill just go to the air canada lounges, its more the outbound i cant figure out!

UA is part of Star Alliance. That should cover the bolded portion of the rule you're puzzled about. It does in 90% of my trans-border flying with cnx on the US side

If any segment on the itin is international, then that qualifies. The stopover in ORD is a wrinkle -- how long is the stopover?, if greater than 24 hours than I believe it would become YMMV for access at BWI -- but there is no UC at BWI anyway.

As for ORD-YYC, you have access to UC in ORD -- *G departing on international flight/itin.

The UA Gold UC rule only applies if the itin is 100% domestic - not an issue in your case.
