Exclamation Narita Airport Connecting to ANA Terminal

Hello All,

I am trying to plan a trip soon to Manila through United.com and ran into somewhat of a dilemma. I will be flying out of Fort Wayne, IN and the best route that works for me is to connect in ORD - Narita then on to Manila.

For that particular route, I have plenty connection time in ORD, but when I arrive in Narita, the itinerary has me connecting on an ALL NIPPON AIRWAYS flight, with only a 1 hour layover. Is there any way I run the risk of missing my flight while trying to find the ANA terminal? Or would I have plenty of time to get there by foot? I'm unsure whether or not I would have to catch a bus or a train to this terminal, so I'm just a bit paranoid.

I appreciate any and all advice from those who had a similar experience. Thank you in advance!

It's all in the same terminal. You'll have to go through a quick security check (worlds better than anything you are used to in the US) and then go to your gate quickly.
Narita staff are generally friendly and efficient, and used to managing lots of connections, so if your flight is somewhat late you will likely find a staff member waiting at your arrival gate to escort you, point you in the right direction, or rebook you, depending on how late you are.
That said, I wouldn't take a 1 hour connection unless I was prepared to look at what happens if I miss it--especially with United's somewhat uncertain reliability on international flights these days!

Do-able but not advisable. I had a TG flight come in late that turned my NH connection to about 1h. I still had time for a sake in the lounge. But I wouldn't have outright booked that.
Aak yourself is the price right and is potentially getting to MNL a few hours to half day later okay.

As stated the connection security is easy. At the end of the jetway, security or up and down the terminal it's common to see NH staff with flight #/city signs going up and down getting pax's attention.

Get off plane as early as you can and try to beat people in front of you to the security check, I've done UA to ANA gate in 15 mins. Make sure to know your connection gate number and study NRT Terminal 1 map, UA gates are in the center of T1, about 10 mins to furthest gates.

If all flights are on-time or ahead of schedule you'll be fine. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of options if you're late. Is there a way that you might be able to get to SFO to take that flight to NRT? That flight would give you more connection time. Another option might be EWR too.

ANA is very proactive. If the connection is tight there might be an agent with a sign in hand displaying the NH flight or even your name right at the gate when you get off your flight. I wouldn't worry too much. Of course if the UA flight is seriously delayed then all bets are off.

This is how the once daily MNL connection is scheduled.

The alternative is to take the NH flight ORD-NRT, which gets in >1 hour earlier.

This is usually the case (the DEN-NRT-DEN flights are all on the same 787-8) but I have also flown the 787-9 on NRT-DEN and vice versa before, and in that case the a/c leaving NRT was the inbound from LAX.

I'm on an ANA flight from KUL-NRT tomorrow morning (8:00 AM - 3:40PM, codeshare UA7967). I've got a connection of 2:35 for NRT-DEN (UA138) - I assume this is plenty of time from what I've read.... any insights into what I should be prepared for? I'm in Business Class, so front of plane.

- Transfer station quick?
- Same terminal?
- Etc.

Also, anyone know anything about KUL? ANA Flight departs at 8AM and I can't seem to check in online (through United or ANA - my info is clearly there though), my Boarding Pass doesn't show up in my United App (neither is the NRT-DEN yet). So do I need to get a paper BP? Should I get paper BPs for the whole journey?

What time should I be at KUL (I'm going to take KLIA Ekspress).

Thank you in advance!

Are you using your NH conf# to try and check in online or the UA one? You should be able to on the NH site with their #. If you don't have it go to your UA booking and click on "additional info" to get it.
I've only been to KUL once but it was really easy, immigration was dead and security done at each gate.

In NRT you'll be in same terminal just need to go through a quick transfer security and it'll dump you out to departures. 2:35 is enough time to visit both NH and UA lounges.

AWESOME! Thank you JVPhoto! I'm using the UA one, so I'll try the other!

Hi everyone,

Could I ask a question as well? Today I'm flying PNH-NRT-SFO, and have an awful 11 hour layover in NRT from about 6:30 am to 5 pm. I'd like to sleep for a few hours before continuing on to SFO, and the best option for a cheap and short rest seems to be the day room at NRT, which is airside.

Assuming I'm given an onward boarding pass at PNH (which I think I will be), I should be able to access the day rooms around 7 am once I clear transit security. My question is, once I'm airside at NRT, am I able to leave and come back? I'd like to use some of the layover to check out downtown Narita (from say 11 am - 3 pm).

Thanks so much for your help!

Yes, assuming you do not need a visa to enter Japan, just have a rest and go to arrivals, clear immigration and customs and take the train into town - just make sure you leave enough time on the way back. If you're *G, use the *G fast track entrance for security but sometimes immigration can get backed-up and you don't want to be stuck there and miss your flight.

Always paper BPs are needed with multiple carriers - ANA should print both for you.

Once you hit NRT though (or really, once the ANA flight closes, I think) and you have either a cell data or wifi connection, you should be able to open your United app, and once it updates, you should see your UA BP in the app - that happens once you only have Ua flights left in your itinerary.

Thanks bocastephen! I'm just heading into Narita-shi, so should be MORE than enough time. And yes, I'm American, so no need for a visa. Glad I'll get a few hours rest!
