Anecdotally, the incubation period has been reducing significantly and with the (early) omicron variants it was often around 48 hrs between contact and early symptom onset.

That’s why I’m now always mindful of this period, especially after (perceived) “higher risk” situations or before meeting more vulnerable people.

I hope everyone feels better soon.

I think attending indoor events, flights, indoor restaurants while maskless is playing the odds, likely a matter of time until exposure occurs, just a function of frequency, duration, time and luck.

Yes, Imperial College did a small study earlier this year which showed an average of 42 hours from exposure to first symptoms. It is mentioned somewhere in this thread.

Graduation was Wednesday morning followed by departmental awards ceremony and (indoorish tented) garden party. Symptoms started Friday night. So not hard to pinpoint. Symptoms are quite mild (I am double boosted) and spending some downtime in hotel plus some quite nice outdoor walks. Relatively small hiccup overall.

Given that there was singing involved in this, I am not surprised

at all.

I’m going to Portugal for work this week and am mildly concerned that I might get stuck there, as they seem to still have a self isolation policy of at least 7 days.

Life goes on. Getting stuck in Portugal for a few days in summer? There are worse outcomes! Vicki above is presumably stuck in the UK but appears to be making the most of it.

In theory I agree. I guess it depends on which hotel room you’re stuck in without the possibility of leaving it!

More importantly, I have a wine weekend in Kent planned for next weekend :D

They look so cute, but not a mask in sight, not even the faculty… I guess they wanted to look pretty for the event, too and probably there is some hidden peer pressure for the big day…

Based on my recent visits to the UK it looks fairly typical. Mask use is low to non-existent even in relatively crowded situations. I doubt masks are not visible in the picture for reasons of vanity or peer pressure.

Of course they couldn't possibly have made their own risk/reward analysis whilst at the same time fully complying with government regulations. Nope, has to be vanity or peer pressure.

FWIW, in the photo you would expect almost one person in each row to have COVID based on current infection rates.

13901 - how long between infections in weeks (I know it's upthread somewhere!)? Second infections generally are milder, Presumably like last time a mere wave of a lateral flow swab in the general direction of your nose comes up positive?

Hi C-W-S, sorry I missed this one. It's been a good 6 months since my first bout of Covid. I have to say I've started feeling OK on Friday. Tested negative in the morning of Sunday so went gravel biking. Not that there were many people around at 4.30AM...

Covid has finally got me, I tested positive last Tuesday (14th June). corporate-wage-slave, I wanted to ask you about being infectious. I first felt symptoms on Tuesday 14th June, tested the same day and saw a very faint line. On Wednesday 15th June, I tested again and I saw a very clear and dark line. Today, almost a full week later, I'm still getting a clear and dark line (see photo below). Wednesday and Thursday were particularly tough on me (fever, coughing and severe lethargy), however, now I'm not really experiencing anything apart from tiredness (I'm double vaxxed and boosted).

I've avoided work and isolated best I can - I have only gone for walks where I stay far away from people. I know we know longer have to isolate according to the law, but I still don't want to infect others if I can avoid it. However, I have important events and travel coming up in the next week, which is why I ask how long I will be infectious and 'dangerous' to others?

I don't know about universities but I would say on average about 3-5% of people are wearing masks in the UK nowadays, however if you choose to wear a mask there is no pressure or judgment from anyone else to not wear one.

The only thing is, if you're going to wear a mask then ideally it should be FFP2+, or at the least seal up your facial orifices properly. What I just can't understand is there are quite a few people who still wear surgical masks while out and about, but below their chin or leave big gaps next to their noses.... when it was a legal requirement yes they were doing it to pretend to comply with the law, but it hasn't been a requirement for over 4 months already (in England anyway)

As for me, apart from a week-long cough in February 2020 I still haven't got it. My wife had a cold in the first 2 weeks of June (probably from children's playgroup) but LFTs were all negative. My son didn't get any symptoms.

Interestingly I am the same as you except my cough was in early March 2020 and was very persistent and regular, but I felt fine otherwise. There's always that nagging feeling that that was it. Mate that I was sharing a car with on a business trip before the world locked down had his "winter breathing" cough in full force and I wonder if both he and I had it then. Neither of us have caught covid since. Dunno.
