I'd be interested to know what HMG's strategy is with vaccines now. We are told that under-40s are, where possible, going to be given non-AZ (which means Pfizer or Moderna), and that accounts for most of the remaining vaccinations. How much do we have? Is it enough or will we have to wait for more? And what are we going to do with the remaining AZ?

Well I have done my bit for Queen and country and had the second jab via a walk-in. Plenty of others, from some intense eavesdropping, seem to be doing the same thing.

Very poor vaccine numbers again today in Scotland - still keep hoping/waiting for those huge Feb numbers and no sign of them yet for some reason?

I am nonetheless thankful that this afternoon I and my partner got our 2nd jab booked in.

Daily data:

Cases 2,696 (2,284 last Wednesday)
Deaths 7 (11)
Patients admitted 89 (106 on the 8th)
Patients in hospital 939 (1,121 on the 10th)
Patients on ventilator 138 (149 on the 11th)
People vaccinated up to and including 17 May 2021:
First dose: 36,985,505
Second dose: 20,870,453

The rolling seven day daily average for cases is now down 0.9% on the previous week and the same measure for deaths is down 22.9%. The rolling 7 day daily average for deaths is now down to 7.7.

Great stuff Silver Fox - do you mind me asking how long in between doses? I called up my GP today and they said I should be ok to have my second dose at Week 8.

I am confused - I am seeing 2135 cases today compared to 2284 last Wed?

400 cases in Scotland alone so we are looking like a bit of a basketcase, they really need to do something quick about vaccinations and testing/isolating here...

Edit: ah, 2100 is with a historical correction of 500 cases in England.

Had the first on 28/2, the system had scheduled the second for 21/5.

Please don't get second doses before 8 weeks! Even that is a bit short for my tastes.

I guess remaining AZ used for 2nd doses and at some point I’m sure they’ll be shared with other countries.

im seeing rumours of j and j approval this week?

Yes. My husband and I had ours 21 days to the hour. If the kid doesn't get her first in England by July we will need to get her set up her for 3 or 4 week spacing as she is only home a month.

There are still plenty of people 40 plus who need vaccines or second doses. If the Indian variants take off more then the 30-40 year olds cohort may once again be offered AZ since we are seeing some evidence that AZ is effective on all 3 variants.

Having said that I've seen some of previews of my rota and next week is quite busy, but the following week, first week of June, I'm on for all 7 days, including evening shifts, so I think we will be into the mid 20s fairly shortly. The vaccine supply bottle neck seems to be easing.

Interesting time at local gp led clinic today. For the first time ever we couldn’t fill all the slots with appointments. Everyone age 36+ has had an invite! Had an hour of walk ins for younger people to use up a Pfizer batch. Very different atmosphere to when we have to turn people away. Must have got through about 200 walk ins today.

Now that we're under 40, maybe it should just be open to anyone to make sure everyone can get one as and when they have time.
