See the answer below. You'll only find out if you can use PreCheck once you present yourself at the checkpoint. If you have been chosen you'll be directed to the appropriate line.
What's confusing in this scenario is that, for this to work, EVERYONE would need to have their BP scanned to determine who is cleared for PreCheck. And I can't ever recall having my BP scanned at the TSA checkpoint. Usually they stare at it for a moment or two, compare it to my ID, make some scribbles on it, and then stamp it. But they never scan it--it is the airline that scans the barcode when I actually board. Am I remembering wrong? I travel A LOT (even though I am just now trying to figure out how to use PreCheck) so it is hard to believe I've forgotten something that happens every time I go through TSA. |
Most US airports have the scanners at the checkpoints to accomodate mobile BPs - thinking about it, don't remember if they scan the paper BPs, but they certainly could.

Interestingly enough, my dad got his conditional approval to set up a renewal interview - I wonder if he can call and have it waived. |

Applied in Feb, conditionally approved in 6 weeks, then scheduled the earliest available interview at YVR for May, got final approval. Three months in total.
At the interview they gave me the member's guide and TDC form printout. From reading that, I got a very nasty surprise. It turn out I have to fill out the TDC form every time when I bring anything back to Canada over a land crossing if I want to use a Nexus lane, even if I am within the limit, even for tax-free basic groceries! What? I got Nexus to save time at the border. Not to create more paperwork each time I cross! Where is the benefit? Also, if I am in a regular non-Nexus lane and I am a little bit over the limit, I get waved through. No such thing in the Nexus lane, as I am now not allowed to make oral declaration. I have to fill out the TDC form every time! 'Cause if you are serious, I suggest you cut your NEXUS card in half and dispose of it immediately. |

You are allowed to make an oral declaration now, but that's new. It's just really important to say I am making a verbal declaration when you drive up. I was told this by the CBSA agent when my wife and kids got their Nexus a couple months ago, and I have done it twice since then.

The other caveat on the Known Traveler Number: don't wait until you check in to enter it, because then it's too late; it needs to be recorded on your reservation already when the Secure Flight info is transmitted to TSA 72 hours before the flight. |

What bridge or crossing told you this? I pretty well got my head bitten off at the Whirlpool bridge and was told clearly to put my declaration in the box as all good boys and girls should.
Have done an oral declaration twice now at Whirlpool. Both times waved through. You probably got someone who was not updated on the new regulations. Happens sometimes; also, I have not noticed this information is updated in the documentation. As such YMMV (as indeed it seems to have for you). |
Just got an email advising my renewal has been provisionally approved subject to the interview session. Expiry of my current card is mid-June, was offered an interview slot next week. However, I will be in Zurich next week. Earliest otherwise at YYZ was August 1st, which I took. Guess I will keep checking for cancellations before that.
Checked the application details and despite having taken my new passport in last Friday to have my file updated, it was still showing my old passport number. Not sure how to handle my entry at EWR from LIS later this month if I need to use GE due to line ups. At the moment I have no US travel planned for the balance of June and July. |

I'm not sure that dropping your passport off is enough to update the online system, but Canada seems to want you to do so. I'll have to see if I can squeeze the time to hop into the NEXUS office at YYZ on the 26th en route to DCA. |
Canadian citizen working in US on H1B with Nexus - Travel Paris through Canada
I am planning to travel to France, via Montreal (live in south US).
I have a multiple entry H1B I-94. I know I can use Nexus card to enter Canada, and from there take a plane to Paris (keeping my current H1B I-94 multiple with me). Coming back Paris-Montreal (Nexus card to enter) and from Montreal to US, Nexus again. I will still have my old I-94 multiple entry, is this ok? |
Group interviews
My whole family (3 of us) plans on getting Nexus. One of us is already conditionally approved.^
Once we're all conditionally approved, is it possible to do a group interview of all 3 of us at the same time? If so, how? Do we just have to hope that there will be 3 interview slots available one-after-the-other, or is there some other way to book a family/group interview? |

FYI, my practice, based on personal conflicting reports of whether your supposed to bring into the office or not, not to mention the ones on here, is to update GOES myself as soon as I get the new passport, and update at the office the next time I'm close to one. |

My wife has Nexus/GE, is on a H1-B and multi-entry I-94. Was told by CBP and by the US side at the Nexus office that as long she was leaving the US/Canada for less than 30 days, she was ok to use the same multiple entry I-94. Immigration lawyer, however, said, yes, CBP, from their perspective is probably ok with that, but that it might be problematic for USCIS. So I'm still not completely sure. FYI...my wife comes back into the states now on GE, and gets a new I-94 every time, but still has the old, multi-entry I-94 in her passport. |
