Moderator's Note
Since the renewal processing times and procedures for US citizens and lawful permanent residents is different than that of non US citizens who live abroad, posts discussing the renewal process in Germany were moved to the following thread:

My GE expired today. I sent in the renewal today. Does anyone know if you renew on the expiration date if you maintain privileges until being confirmed/scheduled for an interview?

Glad this thread has been started: I'm guessing all the folks who got Global Entry in order to get precheck when it was introduced are now facing the expiration of their membership. My Global Entry membership expires in August.
The gov't has so far told me nothing about this: I found out by signing into my account. I was thinking of waiting another month or two, but if I'm reading the wiki correctly, there's no reason to wait: my 5 years will be added to the end of my existing membership. Right?
I have several credit cards that pay the $100 Global Entry fee. I assume that works fine for renewals? Are any credit card issuers "better" at refunding the fee? If there have been any hassles so far, I'll pick the card that makes the process the easiest. Thanks.

The SO applied for renewal around then and is waiting as well.
Also just noticed that TTP seems to have transferred passport names slightly wrong from GOES and didn’t catch it when we submitted. First and middle are combined on one line...oops!

Example:
- Original application approved Feb 2012
- Expiration (and birthday) June 1, 2018
- If you apply on May 31, 2018, then presumably it is approved around June 14, 2018 and extended through 2024. If you apply and are approved before expiry, it is extended through 2023.
Is this correct?

Isn't the best time to renew one day BEFORE expiration, so that you get one additional year of membership assuming it takes a few days to approve?
Example:
- Original application approved Feb 2012
- Expiration (and birthday) June 1, 2018
- If you apply on May 31, 2018, then presumably it is approved around June 14, 2018 and extended through 2024. If you apply and are approved before expiry, it is extended through 2023.
Is this correct?

In your example:
- Initial application approval Feb 2012
- Expiration date 1 June 2018

- If apply for renewal and are approved before 1 June 2018, new expiration date 1 June 2023

Bonus time only applies to initial application, not subsequent renewals.
