There is no disadvantage by renewing early. You get a piece of mind by renewing early. You can renew as early as the day after your birthday in 2017.

Assuming your Global Entry expires on 28 Nov 2018. If you renew on 29 Nov 2017, your new expiration date will be 28 Nov 2018 plus 5 years. Which will be 28 Nov 2023. If you renew a day or two before 28 Nov 2018 with conditional approval, your interview date is after 28 Nov 2018, your new expiration date will be 28 Nov 2023, same as renewing early.

You can't renew until one year before your expiration. After that, renew ASAP so you'll continue getting Global Entry and Precheck uninterrupted.

Early renewal does not subtract time nor add time.

Original Expiration date 12/31/20
Irregardless of whether one renews 1/1/20 or 12/1/20:
Renewal Expiration date will be: 12/31/25
Thanks!

That is correct. You have every reason to renew early instead of late.

Applied: June
Conditionally Approved: ~1 week
Interview: Required
Interview: Nov
Approved: About 30 mins after interview
New card arrived: TBD
Not sure what triggers the interview. Went to SFO with an appointment -- this was originally about 6-months out but moved it up to about 5-months. Did get an email that SFO was in the pilot program to do the interviews on arrival but I ended up not coming back through SFO while returning to the US during the window (it was also not clear if they could do renewals that way but I don't see why not).
Was seen right away at my scheduled time despite it being somewhat chaos outside. Interview lasted maybe 5 minutes total. They took a new photo and finger print scan. Answered two or three questions related to profile and then just some small talk while the officer typed. Officer told me he would approve once I left but the system had been lagging that day so it might take a little longer than usual. Got the email about half an hour later.

Just a note that I have updated the first few paragraphs of the wiki to reflect that the official policy for renewal is one year prior to expiration https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/det...-membership%3F , that the old GOES page and program is no longer operative, and the that the new login has to be performed at https://ttp.cbp.dhs.gov/

I had my interview for global entry on 11/20. The officer told me that I was approved but the new website says that I am "Conditionally Approved" and the radio button that says "Have interview, and wait for approval" is not green (checked).
Is this normal to be unchecked after the interview? I would think it should be checked since I had interview and am waiting for approval. Could that mean the interview wasn't logged or some other problem?

Renewal approved in 4 days .e. applied Friday, approved Tuesday. No interview required.
Not clear to me - will I get a new card in the mail?

My GE expires in Aug so I went to the GOES site to renew, which then directed me to create a new account at the ttp.cbp.dhs.gov site and link my accounts. That part was successful and I can see my information for the current account including where it says I should go ahead and renew. But I see no links on where to renew? I can add a vehicle or apply for the APEC Business Travel Card but no option to renew. Am I looking in the wrong place?
