And if we're being technical, you don't use the 'Nexus' line to go to the US, it's the Global Entry (GE) line. No card or passport necessary. It is indeed facial recognition....they take your picture and match you, you then go see the officer in the designated lane to finish the process. If it doesn't recognize you (the kiosk has had some trouble with my kids), last time the GE officer sent us to the Mobile Passport line to clear the child the kiosk didn't recognize, and needed her passport there.

Thanks Emcampbe, so if it is my first time using the facial recognition, will they have my passport photo on file? Wondering what photo they are matching it up against (nexus, passport, other ;0 )

On the US side, they already have a photo from NEXUS interview as a baseline unless they captured a more recent photo from entries into US since NEXUS interview and/or CBP read the photo in your passport chip.

Going forward, the photo captured at GE kiosk will be retained for future facial recognition.

Hubby and I were just approved for NEXUS but haven't received our cards yet. During the interview, hubby mentioned that he had just retired (was still employed when he submitted the application). The officer said that we should go online to update that, but there doesn't seem to be any way to do that online. I can see how to update passport and address info online, but not employment info. So, am I missing something? Do I have to wait until we actually receive and activate our cards? Or does he actually have to call or go in person to an enrollment centre to update this?

If employment/retirement status affects USA or Canada entry eligibility, the Nexus holder is obligated to report the change in status to a Nexus enrollment center. However, if the employment/retirement status does not change an individual's eligibility for admission to either USA or Canada, report the status change at the next Nexus renewal.

I got my nexus card 4 months ago and I will be going to USA soon.

The thing is, I am refugee and I use Blue Canadian Refugee Travel document, I attended both CBP and CBSA interviews with that document. However, I still had to put my national passport information on the application as proof of citizenship.

I called Canadian CBSA nexus phone and they told me my Refugee Travel Document is listed in other documents section rather than passport section. They told me I can travel with no problems.

On TTP portal, passport section shows my national passport which is seized by CBSA when I applied for refugee protection. On TTP portal, I can see my national passport information, not my refugee travel document.

My questions are;

- Will Global Entry kiosks recognize my Refugee Travel Document entered in other documents section and pull my membership and photo for facial recognition?

- I read that in Canadian pre clearance locations, Nexus card is recognized if I choose not to scan my passport on the Global Entry kiosk. If I scan my nexus card, will I be recognized by kiosk and get receipt without problems?

- Before I get my nexus card, I have been using normal kiosks to enter Canada and make declaration, take my receipt, go to the immigration. Because I am refugee, everytime I enter Canada, kiosk send me to immigration for me to see the officer.

If I scan my refugee travel document there, a receipt that writes only "IMP" gets printed and I go to immigration, they ask lots of questions. Machine doesnt take my picture, it justs says go see the officer.

If I scan my PR card, it takes my picture, and prints a receipt with my photo like the receipt that everone gets. I still go to immigration but this time they dont ask a lot of questions.

Questions is, if I use to nexus kiosk, will I go to immigration again. What should I expect after using nexus kiosk?

Because regular kiosks didn't recognize my refugee travel document and sent me to an officer before. I suspect nexus kiosks will do the same because when using the nexus kiosk first time, we need to scan our passports for kiosk to get photo from the passports chip. I wonder if I can use the nexus machine for the first time with my refugee travel document.

- Last time I arrived Pearson Terminal 1, I saw a separate turn for ArriveCan before coming to the passport kiosks. Becuase I submitted my declaration using ArriveCan, I turned there and the stairs took me to the regular passport kiosks near nexus line. Is going to nexus line possible there, or should I first follow the corridor that goes to regular kiosks and then turn left from there to go to nexus kiosks.

Sorry for the long reply and questions.

can’t comment on all the refugee travel doc/recognition questions, but can say the following:

- Entering the US, the kiosks should all be the updated photo ones. That means it takes your photo, and either recognizes you, you get a receipt, which you take to GE officer, who, IME, basically waves you through. If kiosk doesn’t recognize you (as it does for my kids sometimes), GE officer sends us to mobile passport officer to get cleared - and asks for passport there. I suspect if the kiosk doesn’t properly recognize the refugee you/your status, officer there would ask for it. Have no experience, though.

- It’s likely you’ll still be sent to an immigration officer when entering Canada using Nexus - but you’ll get to that point faster.

- Using ArriveCan is useless for a Nexus member, IMO. No declaration to fill, and still probably faster with Nexus. Less work. That’s what I use ever since they stopped requiring ArriveCan.

Thanks for thr reply, I will see after I travel how it will work. Also I just noticed that I have my glasses on my nexus card picture. Is it a problem for facial recognition?

official info instead of a blogger. I would expect no difference whether you are enrolled in GE directly or thru NEXUS. Note it is currently at limited airports; none of them are in Canada preclearance.

rarely if ever do nexus members get mentioned by CBP when referring to global entry, even though all nexus members get all global entry benefits and can use the kiosks and program just like a ge member.

I visited a GE office to add my TN status that I acquired via USCIS (so I have a I797A). When I asked the officer about updating my US-side NEXUS records with my TN, they seemed to already know what to do.

I notice now on the dashboard that for the visa number, they put the USCIS receipt number instead of the I94 number. I keep reading online that everyone says I94 number, so my question is did they update it correctly or do I need to revisit the enrollment center..

Hi all,

I just received my approval for NEXUS. In the TTP dashboard below the approval, it says that TSA Precheck is included, but Global Entry isn't mentioned anywhere. Just wondering if it should be listed there as well and if I'd still be able to use GE benefits.

It doesn't mention GE on mine either but i've been using it for 10 years.
