Hi all,
I just received my approval for NEXUS. In the TTP dashboard below the approval, it says that TSA Precheck is included, but Global Entry isn't mentioned anywhere. Just wondering if it should be listed there as well and if I'd still be able to use GE benefits. |
Is there a thread about using NEXUS at Canadian airports to enter Canada? I’m trying to find out if NEXUS kiosks still require the use of the NEXUS card to be used at YYZ.

The latest NEXUS kiosks at YYZ want to see a NEXUS card. I have no idea whether they'd als:o scan a passport. I've never tried.

Nexus kiosks (ie, when entering Canada) have always, always required use of a Nexus card. Even the e-gates require you to have your card read before you can use them.
The newer kiosks can scan passports, I'm pretty sure, as I believe the first time you use those they ask you to scan passport for facial recognition for the e-gates. But I'm assuming you can not use that in lieu of a Nexus card for entry, given the kiosks (and e-gates) specifically instruct you to use Nexus card. IMO, unlike for GE, they want you to have the card to use it. |

My experience at YVR two weeks ago was garbage.
scanned my card, then it said it needed to update my picture. Why? I renewed last year and my passport hasn’t changed. Okay, scan my passport. Then it wanted to take my picture. First I was too close, then too far. Eventually reached a point where literally moving back half an inch was too far and moving forward was too close. machine gave up and printed a slip with an X. Border agent shrugged and said she had no idea whether it went through. Then visited the nexus desk in the departure hall where they used to do interviews. Agent had no idea what I was talking about (honestly I’m not sure if she even understood what machine I was referring to), checked my file and said if there are any issues, I should consult CBP customer support. Which of course makes no sense because it’s only the Canadian side that had any issue to begin with. Guess I’ll just have to wait until I cross the border again by air (no issues crossing by car last year post-renewal). |

Since it’s been a few years and couldn’t remember those particular steps/procedures or if I had to scan my passport first. I wasn’t a U.S. citizen back then so I wonder if I’ll have to use my passport first this time around again.

You need NEXUS card to activate CBSA NEXUS kiosk.

Do the agencies use recent prior photo captures for verification or just rely on the machines? It'd appear that the new card I should hopefully receive next year will have the same photo as the cards issued 15, 10 and 5 years prior.

Nexus card? FYI, my 8 year-old eventually was ‘auto-approved’ without need for appt (this was during COVID - she initially was told to schedule, but with Canadian offices closed, eventually just got the full approval). New card sent with original photo - so 8 yo walking around with photo from when she was 3 months old. I guess they just assume it’s her….

Will be interesting if she uses the facial recoqnition GE device. I think the last time I used it (HNL, 2019) it was fingerprint. Even so, I'm surprised the age issue wasn't flagged.
interestingly enough, got sent through regular kiosks yesterday inbound to Canada, as our aircraft didn’t arrive until 4:30am and so regular area ‘closed’ - we went to connections area for kiosk, and then finished clearing downstairs. Kiosk only took pictures of wife and I. Officer do g clearance asked for passports for kids - he accepted Nexus cards though and cleared them that way. |

CBSA kiosk asks you to enroll photo from passport. |
Does anyone know if I need to bring a birth certificate to the NEXUS interview?
The interview confirmation printout was the first mention of it I’d ever seen. I applied using a passport and drivers license. I don’t recall needing a birth certificate for the Global Entry interview. Is this a CBSA side requirement? |
