while I wish I could wholeheartedly agree, the language is very specific that Nexus members have ‘Global Entry benefits’ and not they are officially members of the program.
While I agree that in practice until now, it’s meant exactly the same thing, and that IMO, it should, if there was ever a time when officials will parse the language to change what that means (negatively), it’s now. While I really hope nothing changes, there is very little in relation to the US government right now that gives me confidence that this won’t change on a moments notice - potentially multiple times very quickly. Again, I really hope nothing changes, but let’s not pretend that things aren’t changing on a whim right now. LAX |

I realize I am nitpicking here, but the entire point of being a GE "member" is so that one can utilize "benefits" associated with such membership, whatever they may be. Until the official language (or interpretation) is changed, all GE benefits should be available to NEXUS members as well.

You aren't nitpicking. Your point is glaringly obvious in the actual operation of the programs. GE and NEXUS use the same Known Traveler Numbers. When you move from one program to another, your number doesn't change. GE is for use entering the US and NEXUS is for use entering Canada. I'll posit that f:Dr purposes of a program member entering the US there is no difference in the two programs at all -- other than the program name on the card.

You still are issued an I-94 when crossing by land if you crossed at an actual border crossing. I just checked the I-94 site now and all of my land crossings are there. Blaine, Lynden, etc. So those people would fall under the last sentence of the paragraph you quoted as they were issued an I-94 which is evidence of registration. Anyone can check their I-94 history here https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94/#/history-search
i also reviewed my history. From what I see, every land crossing (even dedicated Nexus crossings) indicates “information unavailable”. Every airport pre-clearance crossing has an I-94. Thinking back, once I had Nexus, I no longer had my passport stamped. An I-94 was issued. However, until I reviewed the history online, I had no idea I was being given this visa. Not sure how I was supposed to know. Never mentioned by the border official or at any Nexus interview. |
I am wondering if the Canadian folks on this thread can help me. We need to get my son's looooong delayed NEXUS conditional approval (what is actually a renewal during COVID if you can believe it) completed with an interview. Due to a filing glitch, his benefits were not grandfathered during the renewal (his status somehow expired) and so we have been without GE and NEXUS for a few years as a result and it is a PITA as a family of 5 to have one kid who cannot use GE/NEXUS. We moved (used to be in the PacNW) and so there is not really a convenient US land location to do the interview, but that is beside the point because there just aren't any appointments available in advance at the US locations on the west coast. So I have looked at just flying to a Canadian airport and it appears that Edmonton has a fair number of appointments (too bad I did not figure this out in advance and we would have been able to fly up to get the interview done and see our LA Kings beat your Oils on April 14, but I digress). I see that some appointments sometimes open at the last minute for Vancouver or Calgary, both would be cheaper and more convenient from a flight perspective, but not sure there is any rhyme or reason to the release of last minute openings. Is there a trend like midweek or fridays that I might be able to bank on or a time where those slots at those airports tend to open up? I will just do Edmonton if we have to... Thanks!

There’s no issue with the paperwork, the extension was only ever for 2 years. I submitted my renewal in 2019, everything shut down when I was going to look for appointments, and my benefits were extended from 2020 to 2022. I did a land border interview shortly after.
The appointment checker actually has an HTTP API you can hit on a regular basis to snag an appointment when one opens up. That’s how I managed to find a slot within a 6-hour drive instead of having to go across the country. |

If you're planning to fly somewhere with a NEXUS enrollment center, the Detroit Enrollment Center always seems to have appointments available. Only a 20 minute drive from DTW, all on I-94.

While not the literal answer to your question, normally you will receive an email telling you there has been a change of status, at which point you can log in to find out what it is. Of course that doesn’t stop people—myself included—from logging in to check status before receiving said email “just in case”. :p

Thanks. I thought I had read somewhere (maybe I misunderstood) about not expecting email updates.

Well. I should have been checking the NEXUS account instead of emails! I haven't bothered to check the NEXUS account because I haven't gotten any email notification. But, since it has been about a year since application submission, I figured I might just check. I was surprised to see "conditionally approved" after logging in. Since I was curious when it was approved, I tried to check when a notification was supposedly sent, but it was blank. Does that mean a notification was never sent when status changed?

Generally you will receive an email the same day as the date change in status/conditional notification letter. On occasion the system might fail to automatically send an email.

Finally received condition approval after over a year (and not sure why it took so long since my GE renewed with no interview).
Does the Detroit location have free parking on site, or will I have to pay and/or park off site at a nearby lot. Looks like it's downtown. Interview is next saturday I was surprised at all the empty time slots they had. |
