I was one of the unlucky ones. Clean record, one address change, and had visited several new countries split between Europe and Latin America. My renewal took four months, but no interview was required.

Reach out to the GE help desk via https://www.help.cbp.gov/s/questions?language=en_US . From trouble reports here on FT, there was a week or two period of time last fall where approved applications' GE cards were never sent for printing. The GE help desk will be able to resend the card print request.

Submitted GE renewal application & payment on Monday. Today, 3 days later, I received a notification:
"We are pleased to inform you that your U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Global Entry program membership has been approved. You can begin using the program immediately." I checked the expiration...was 2026, now is 2031. That was easy. I was expecting to have to hit an enrollment center again. My countries-visited were only in Europe & Asia, FYI. |
I’m coming up on renewal time.
Do I have to re-do my background check in my citizenship country as part of the renewal? I’m an LPR in the US. Haven’t lived in my citizenship country for 8 years now. |

Global Entry application and renewal procedures for US Lawful Permanent Residents are identical to those of US citizens. No background check in the country of citizenship is required.
When I did it originally, I was on an L1 visa. Appreciate the help. |

Did you update your change of visa with the CBP? If not, I strongly recommend that you do so before applying to renew your GE membership. You may do so by stopping at any Enrollment Center, no appointment is necessary.

GE Renewal Timeline
First renewal
Address change (same state), 1 country visited. Passport had been renewed, but I had already updated that info on my profile when that happened the year prior. Renewed less than 5 months before expiration. There was a new question relating to criminal record (if you have an expunged criminal record they are requesting information). I don't recall that on the prior application and I don't believe I answered anything in the affirmative in regard to any criminal history. I had an arrest when I was 14 for a petty criminal matter. My record was expunged when I turned 18. I answered the question honestly. March 24th submitted renewal request March 26th approved, no interview The total time was less than 36 hours to receive my approval notification. |
Here is my situation. GE for 10+ years. Renewed once w/o issue. This time forgot to renew (5 days past deadline but still); then renewed back in October (hence 5 months now). Still have not heard back - no obvious hurdles (travelled only in Europe, US and Singapore). Questions: a) normal wait time? b)better to re-apply? c) should I try and visit a enrollment center in US? d) anything else?
Thanks! |

Thanks! Just be patient and wait for the response to your renewal application. You cannot accelerate the process by visiting an enrollment center. |
Thank you - just a nuisance. No one to blame but myself - still do not quite understand why the grace period does not apply to situations like mine but anyway…..

Unless you have a green card every German needs to go to the Bundespolizei in Germany to ask them to send an email to the CBP. This is due for every renewal. I did that 2013 when I applied, and in 2018 & 2023 when I renewed. Without the message from the Germans CBP will not touch your GE renewal application.

Long hail waiter?
So, I applied on March 29 and today is April 2nd and still in “application review “ status. Is it safe to say that since I wasn’t approved for a renewal within a couple of days after applying, I will probably have to wait 6-8 months?
it seems that that’s the case, you either get approved right away or the waiting game begins… I really haven seen people here posting that it took a week or 2… its always many months if not approved right away after application. This is my 3rd renewal btw. |
My wife missed her Global Entry expiration date. Had to reapply. 3 days later was approved.
