Interesting CBP is processing renewals during the shutdown.

part of me things they’ve optimized the process and or automated much of it, but PART of me thinks at this point they have just lowered the standards and rigor.. not sure.

Will be interesting to see whether timelines stretch for those who don't get nearly instant approval, though may be hard to tell how much longer it took.

I suspect you're right that for anyone already in the program there's either a pre-approval ready to go or something close, with certain "red flags" that push you into the manual review bin.

Well, in my case, just over 24 hours to approval of renewal. No oddball issues or countries visited in last 5 years.

(And this is third renewal, none requiring interview)

Sometimes gov't agencies work

Same here. Was approved in 24 hours and this was my second renewal. No follow up interview needed for either renewal.
Visited ~25 countries in the past 5 years.
Fee offset by a credit card rebate.

Process couldn't be smoother.

Data point:
Submitted for renewal on Tues 12/16
Approved on Thurs 12/18

This was my 3rd or 4th renewal. Fastest one yet.

Wish mine would renew so quickly. This would be my second renewal. No changes to my background history. Only countries visited have been Western Europe. Applied for renewal in August. Still "pending review." Current membership good until August 2026, but some sort of movement on this would be nice.

Submitted for renewal Dec 24th. Approval less than 24 hours later on the 25th. Definitely didn't expect that! My third renewal, and far and away the fastest, also the first time I haven't had to interview again.

Either they have contractors doing this work in some odd places or they have an algorithm that pre-approves renewals for most applicants, or pre-approves subject to certain flags, so as soon as they get their money you get your approval.

My Global Entry isn't due for renewal until June, but I received an email notification from them on 12/29 to notify me it is due for renewal next year.
Decided to go ahead and submit the renewal now to take advantage of credit card fee reimbursement this year.
Submitted on 12/30 around 4 pm
Notice of status change received on 12/31 at 10:40 pm (approx. 30 hours later)
No interview needed; this was my 4th renewal.

Submitted my renewal around noontime on 12/30 and received approval sometime on Jan 1. No interview needed and approved for another 5 years from my expiration date. I love the global entry app and of course pre check is great.

Applied 1/1 and received approval 1/2 about 24 hours later.

Global entry expiring weeks before my JFK - MXP trip in October

I’m a wheelchair passenger who just booked a JFK —MXP itinerary for mid October. My GE expires two weeks prior to my departure.

Is there time to renew? Would I even need it because I use a wheelchair? I rarely travel now so this is why I’m asking. Thanks.

You will be completely fine. You are now within the one-year window prior to expiration so you can do your renewal now, and while your renewal application is pending (if for some reason it takes past your travel date for the government to approve it) as long as your filed your renewal timely you have an up-to-24 month "grace period" under which your benefits continue while your renewal is pending.

In the event that your renewal is denied for a substantive reason, then of course that would change things but you'd probably already know if something had occurred to disqualify you from the program. So you'll be fine. My last GE renewal took a matter of days.

I can't speak to the "need" if using wheelchair assistance but I would keep GE.

Thank you, Night Flyer! I did fill out the renewal application. I do want to keep it. I appreciate the reassurance of a grace period for those who apply for renewal before expiration. That’s what I did!
