It’s a background check. Presumably, a lot of other agencies are involved, especially for people with common names.

I can tell you I don't have a common name. I think the system is screwed up after the federal government shutdown.

I applied for renewal on March 25 and was approved on April 3, so it's probably not the partial shutdown.

No, the grace period is automatic. Did anything else change? Was this first non-precheck flight booked with a different travel agent/web site? Did you verify that your reservation's Secure Flight Passenger Data fields match your TTP profile?

Yes, booked on united.com with my usual profile, so the same number should be in there. Tried reentering my KTN at the kiosk at the airport, which did not change anything.

unless you work for DHS/CBP you’re speculating.
Clearly there are apps (new or renewal) that require addl scrutiny.
I have zero legal or court or criminal issues, but there is something that flagged something.
or the government is a bunch of understaffed imbeciles.

Yes, the careful reader will note my use of the word "probably."

If you wish to comment or opine about the efficiency or fairness or the process, or speculate about the reasons why some applicants experience longer waits than others for conditional approval, please start a thread in the Checkpoints and Borders Policy Debate forum, which is the place for such discussions.

I would have thought that I would have had a quick and (nearly) automatic approval since I already hold the status but I guess not

30 days and counting - still shows as "Pending Review"

Only 30-days?

I am at just about 2-1/2 months.

As stated upthread:
"If you submit a renewal application before expiration of your current membership, then you can continue to use your benefits until the renewal is finalized (up to 6 months after your expiration date)"

Also, the timeline for renewals seem to be the same as initial applications - you get some sort of approval within the first two weeks, or then it's around 70 days or later.

I applied for renewal on January 24 and I received my new card yesterday. Looks like I was approved on April 9 by the Otay Mesa branch.

I had sent an email via the website at the end of March asking what was taking so long. It would be interesting to track the location of renewals as being reviewed by the busiest land border crossing in the world probably had something to do with my delay.

joe_miami Apr 16, 2019 11:09 am

Where did you see the branch?

This should be in the approval letter.
