Fast renewal of expired GE status

A close friend allowed her Global Entry to expire during the first quarter of last year. She filed for renewal this past Tuesday. Today she was granted renewal effective for the five year period with no interview. There appears to be no rhyme nor reason as to these renewals.

Renewing global entry early

guys - if my global entry expires in April 2021 but I renew today, will the new 5 year period kick off from April onwards?

Also I realized an error for country of birth. I think my google chrome may have auto populated it - am I big trouble given I'm trying to correct a 5 year old mistake ? Hope not !

Thx

Five years from your next birthday.

You may have to see an officer for that. Please update us for future reference. Thank you.

Data point.

Expired GE renewal. Submitted application on Oct 29, still pending

Another data point

One more renewal data point from my side… I had stupidly let my GE expire back in March. Submitted for renewal on 11/03, did not win the auto-approval lottery but received conditional within an hour. No virtual slots available so I had to book first available in ATL for June 2022! Kept on checking for slots and yesterday morning (11/09) a bunch of virtual slots miraculously showed up for next day (11/10). Booked one in the morning (all slots were gone within 15-20 mins), the interview took 5 mins (had to hold up my passport, my driver license and mortgage statement with latest address up to the phone camera) and received final approval within 10 mins! All in all, very efficient once the virtual slot became available.

Applied for renewal on Sept 9, 2021
Conditional Approval on Dec 6, 2021
Managed to snag a Zoom interview appointment for Dec 6, 2021

When I initially tried to schedule a remote interview, it was showing no availability for the next year. I just kept checking multiple times over the course of the day & grabbed a slot when one magically appeared. (Fortunately, I work from home so had easy access to my passport.)

My previous Global Entry membership was set to expire August 11. I submitted my renewal application on August 2 and received notification of full approval on August 4. However I still haven't received a new Global Entry card, I still only have the one that expired on the 11th. Is it normal to not have received the new card yet nearly a full four weeks after the full approval of the renewal goes through? I just double checked on my trusted traveler profile to make sure it wasn't actually prompting me to make an interview, but indeed, it says my only remaining step is to activate the new card.

Following up on this, I created a ticket with CBP after 8 weeks had passed since my renewal was approved, but I still don't have the new card and CBP cannot even give me an estimate on when they'll be able to get me the new card. Has anyone ever had the $25 fee for just ordering a new card trigger the GE credit on a card that has that or are these cards looking for the exact $100 for GE/$85 for Precheck?

My situation is that assuming omicorn doesn't scuttle it, I have plans to go to Vancouver at the end of January and I'd like to have the new card in hand before I go on that trip. I know it's not strictly necessary for air travel to/from Canada, but on the way back the card gets you into their equivalent of the Precheck security line (they can't just look you to see if they can let you into the line unless you're enrolled in NEXUS), and having the card on me has bailed me out before from having to go stand in the long general line when the GE terminals weren't working.

When the cards were new, someone ordered one (for $15 at the time) which triggered a full $100 (this was before Precheck) credit. This was from July 2011 though.

I don't have recent data points for GE specifically, but I just added Mrs. Majuki to my CLEAR membership. Her fee was a prorated amount under $50.00, and the credit triggered properly. I don't know if it works identically for GE, up to $100.

Data point.

Inadvertently let GE membership expire in Jan 2021. Applied in August 2021 (says Application type: Renewal though?). Still Pending Review.

Got email 6 months after my birthday in June for my first GE renewal. Did the application and paid online. Next day got email that my status has changed. Went online and saw that it was approved and GE was renewed and didn't say anything about interview. I guess no interview!

My wife and son's GE also got renewed without interview the next day after applying. It will be interesting to see if they are going to send our son's new GE card with his old picture taken when he was 9 years old. Or would they have used his latest passport picture taken when he was 12. Neither picture will look like him at all.

Got the email and renewed mine and my wife's (who does not expire until 2-1/2 months after mine) on the evening of December 16th, got notice mine had been renewed on December 18th, my wife is not getting the automatic renewal apparently.

We flew on December 17th and December 19th, got PreCheck, but this morning I just noticed neither of us got TSA PreCheck for our Southwest flight today (we're on separate reservations as my wife is flying on my Companion Pass).

Check out this thread for the myriad reasons why eligible travelers may fail to receive TSA Precheck for any particular flight and what you can do about it.
