2 DPs for GE Renewal

P1:
Applied: Nov 26, 2021
Status: still shows "Pending Review" as of now (Jan 7, 2022)

P2:
Applied: Jan 5, 2022
Approval: Jan 7, 2022

P2 was born a US citizen while P1 obtained US citizenship in 2020. Not sure if that's why P2's process was much quicker.

Interestingly, my wife's GE expired because she didn't check and start her passport renewal before IT expired. So she got the passport renewed, then had to re-apply for GE since it had expired. I expected she'd have to do everything again, so we were looking at flying to MIA for the interview as that was one of the few places within a couple hours flying time that had openings.
She then got an email saying it was approved. Not conditionally approved, but full approval, and then a couple weeks later got a renewed GE card (that she didn't ask for, but she had one the last time so I guess they just sent it on).

I fully did not expect that at all.

Submitted my GE renewal on 1/10 and it was approved on 1/12. No interview needed, membership extended another 5 years.

Submitted my renewal on 10/24/2021, still waiting. My wife submitted hers on 1/12/2022 and got fully approved(no interview) on 1/13/2022. She has been to way more countries than me in the past 5 years.

I have come to believe that there are different "queues" or buckets in which renewal applications are placed in, depending on individual profile or a whole lot of other factors that we can't know about. It seems like the folks who are approved within a few days have passed some sort of an automated approval process, and those who have to wait for months must undergo manual review which takes time depending on the number of pending cases..

I am certain that you are correct. If we were to actually figure out that criteria, though, they'd undoubtedly be forced to change it, lest persons would be able to take advantage of the system.

My wife submitted a renewal application January 26, 2022, (expiration is in fourth quarter this year, but wanted to get it in process, just in case). She received approval two days later on January 28, 2022. No interview.

How did you do this? My GE renewal interview is scheduled for July, but I'd sure like to not have to do it.

MSPeconomist Feb 8, 2022 11:17 pm

I just did the renewal application and received a notice that my renewal had been approved (no request to schedule an interview). At the time I renewed, this was fairly common but far from universal; there was speculation at the time that people who had visited countries on the "naughty" list had to do interviews.

I've renewed my GE twice and my APEC once. Never had to do another interview. I thought the interview was just a one-time thing.

MSPeconomist Feb 9, 2022 10:27 am

When I did mine, I had the impression that a slight majority of people had to do the interview again, but it wasn't required for a significant fraction of renewals.
