Data point:
First GE renewal. US LPR. Submitted renewal on 4th January, currently pending review. For the initial application 4 years back I was conditionally approved in 3 or 4 days; hoping it stays the same this time also. US Green Card holder. First renewal. Submitted renewal on 4th January, and just got full approval (no interview required) on 20th May. So ... 4.5 months this time. |
Still waiting for my passport renewal, and my GE expires in the first half of June so I assume that I have to make a new GE application. I don't see any way to start renewing as it keeps asking me to update my passport information.
My wife's in the same situation but her birthday is in late September so she will probably be able to renew. |
Due for GE renewal. Was conditionally approved, last time I my renewal was fully approved without having to go in.
I actually scheduled an appointment for August in Chicago for this one (have a planned work trip so was just going to do it and fly in a couple of hours early). Got an email about doing GE on Arrival at IAD on my way home from a Europe trip. My IAD - RDU flight was cancelled (and my bags came out in the main arrivals hall, not the transfer baggage claim) so decided to just stop in at the desk since I wasn't rushing to the next flight. CBP officer took my picture, recorded my finger prints, and told me I would get an update in 1-2 days. Received confirmation this afternoon that approval went through so now I'm good through 2027. Easy to do -- would recommend that option for anyone conditionally approved and struggling to book an appointment. It was just a walkup to the counter, I didn't have to schedule anything in advance. At IAD it was to the left after baggage claim in the main arrivals halls so was easy to find. |
Renewal Timing Data point. Spouse needed renewal before November 2022. Just applied for renewal and less than 2 days later, renewal was completely APPROVED!

radiolarian I'm in the same boat, Is you application still pending?

Renewal approval in about 48 hours
My adult daughter applied this past Thursday for her second GE renewal. Had only traveled to two countries, England and Ireland, in the last five years. Received approval letter/email this morning and no interview required.

I applied for renewing my GE on April 23 with a June expiration. Still waiting a month later.
Fortunately there is the extended grace period, which I note the TTP dashboard no longer lists as "2 years", and instead just says "Due to a significant increase in application volume, we are extending the grace period to allow you continued full benefits while U.S. Customs and Border Protection is finalizing your renewal application." Indefinite grace period!? Are they so short staffed that they can't even guarantee 2 years now? |
I applied for renewal in April 2021 with an Oct 2021 expiration coming up. Conditionally approved, required an interview. In hindsight, I'm fairly certain 1 month at current address was a flag. Scheduled an an interview a couple of months ago for today at Atlanta.
Not quite as breezy as the original interview where the agent rushed through it as fast as he could. Today, the agent asked a couple of "see if this throws him" questions, but obvious it was going to go through. I had moved again since the application, so had her enter my current address from DL. I had read that Pre-Check goes on haitus during the grace period, but not for me. I got it twice prior to final approval (two hours after interview). |

If you've applied for a renewal, do you have to interview again?
|
Renewals are usually approved automatically, but I was one of the unlucky few who needed an interview.
Not interested in a Zoom option, about the only in-person location I could find was ATL, so was able to schedule one a few weeks in advance. Flew up there this week, "passing" the interview with official status change a couple of hours later. ATL office is located at Terminal F where passengers who have cleared customs exit to meet awaiting family, drivers, etc. The office itself is in the corner, accessible by a side door; was slightly confusing at first to me. The "official" hours are stated as 9 - 4, but staff are there later for scheduled appointments. A wife was there for her scheduled appointment that day - her accompanying husband asked if he could be interviewed, too, instead of returning for his scheduled appointment the next day? Intake clerk responded with a firm NO. |

I got this reminder recent via email: Due to a significant increase in application volume, U.S. Customs and Border Protection is extending the grace period from 6 months to 1 year for any Trusted Traveler member who has a valid membership and who has submitted a renewal application. This means you will continue to receive full benefits for 1 year while U.S. Customs and Border Protection is finalizing your renewal application. |
Although they say approval will not be sent, I got an email today saying I had a change in status. Logged in and found out my Global Entry was approved. good late 2027! Glad I don't need an interview, as I only get to the US every year or so. Chase IHG is paying for it.
