26. Yes indeed, it was Reeve Aleutian. So now we are looking for the destination served nonstop by this flight from Anchorage.....and this destination was also served at this time by Reeve Aleutian with its Lockheed L-188 Electra and NAMC YS-11 turboprop equipment and I believe this airport did have a paved runway in 1976.

Plus, the Douglas DC-6 flight in question actually operated a "triangle" routing of ANC - ___ - ___ - ANC.....so bonus points shall be forthcoming if both stops are identified.

The Continental timetable (see post # 18256) as well as Jon Proctor both state that CO began operating "Viscount II" service on May 28, 1958. So it appears that BOAC was indeed "first in the west" with scheduled turboprop service.

Perhaps Bob Six & company at Continental simply overlooked this at the time......

Ahhh, so he did. I didn't see it, as I was answering from the initial questions, but I also added the route. I used to live in Fort Myers and my father was in the lodging business doing long term rentals and he would get many Canadians in from right after Thanksgiving until late February/mid March. He had transportation arranged from the airport to the beach area where many stayed as well as driving some up to Sanibel or down to Naples.

This has to be Eastern's "hub" at MCI. I believe these EA flights were branded as Moonlight Special.

43. Now you are in Indianapolis and are off to southern California. You've got a meeting to attend in Rancho Cucamonga and are surprised to find a direct flight to the closest airport to the office you are heading to in that interesting little city (which just happens to have a lovely view of Mt. Baldy which at 10,064 feet is the highest peak in the San Gabriel mountain range). The flight you will be on operates daily, makes two stops, and you have a seat in first class. Identify the air carrier, both stops, the airport you will arrive into in southern California and the aircraft.
The arrival airport is definitely Ontario (ONT). Just guessing here but I will go with a UA 722 routing IND-DEN-SFO-ONT.

41. Eastern with its "Moonlight Special" service is correct....but surprisingly, the connecting airport involved in this low fare effort by EA wasn't Kansas City (MCI).

43. Yep, Ontario (ONT) is the airport we are looking for.....however, the airline wasn't United, the aircraft wasn't a B727-200 and the flight in question did not stop at Denver or San Francisco.

Please guess again, sir!

41- um, isn't this sort of a "gimme"? see highlight in original q

in Jan 86 I flew LAX-ORD on an Eastern A300 for something like $49 ... as I was boarding (carrying a pilot's black bag adorned with with a bunch of Boeing Flight Test stickers and a name tag saying "Flight Crew Member"), one of the pilots was standing by the forward galley and asked if I worked for Boeing Flight Test; I said I had for a few years, he asked if I knew his former Navy squadron mate, I said yes, we even played recreational soccer together in Seattle ... we kept chatting by the flight deck door until the FA started to get antsy about final cabin prep ... there were maybe 50 pax on board, no more than four or five in F; I sat down in 3A and she never batted an eye

Thanks Mwenenzi. Some new ones there.
There have already been far more responses than I envisaged.
I'll post the missing ones from my original list now and call boarding complete to enable us to get on with the airline quiz.

How about an AA MD-80 routing IND-DFW-PSP-ONT?

43. A great guess! And several airlines operated PSP - ONT or ONT - PSP tag routes over the years....

However, it wasn't American, the aircraft wasn't an MD-80 and the flight did not stop at Dallas/Fort Worth or Palm Springs.
