42. Yep, the stop was made at LAX. However, it wasn't American and the equipment in question wasn't a DC-10. Please guess again, sir!

I don't think UA ever had a SAN tag on a Hawaii flight so I will guess NW with a 747.

I remember Transamerica advertising cheap 747 flights to Europe (FRA is the specific destination I remember) so how about Transamerica?

United certainly has had a significant presence over the years at Seattle and I think it was a small but important hub for the airline during most of the 1980's and 1990's. For example, in 1989 UA was operating nonstop service into SEA from ANC (with originating service from FAI on this route), ORD, DEN, HNL, LAX, JFK, OAK, SNA, PDX, SMF, SAN, SFO, GEG and IAD while at the same time UA Express was flying code share service with turboprops nonstop into SEA from BLI, BOI, EUG, PSC, PDX, PUW, GEG, EAT and YKM. Also in 1989, United was operating international nonstops to SEA from HKG, NRT and, of course, YVR. I also recall UA operating a B747-400 nonstop to SEA from DEN in 1999.

Guess I was wrong and one could have flown the friendly skies and enjoyed Royal Hawaiian Service and Trader Vic's Menehune Juice on SAN-LAX-HNL.

49. Identify the air carrier that ran this print ad in 1985:
ENJOY THE BUSINESS CLASS SERVICE RATED BEST TO LONDON.....FOR UP TO $1100 PER ROUND TRIP LESS THAN THE ALSO-RANS.

*

I'm going to try:
Eastern Airlines to London-Gatwick, using a DC-10-30.
I think the flight started in Miami.

Oh no ...
What a time for my laptop to pack in. CPU failure apparently. Still under warranty but no service places running no stores open.
(Very) temporarily overcome ...

they did indeed ... and I'm pretty sure that 747 is what we're looking for here

maybe "small" in comparison to SFO and DEN, but they had the entire North Satellite (16 gates) from the time I first moved to Seattle in 1978 until the mid-90s if not later

I'll also join the chorus for United. I remember them operating a 747 on the SAN-LAX route (I believe they're the only airline that ever has. This might also qualify as the shortest domestic 747 flight ever) but I don't recall if it continued up the coast to Seattle or went to Honolulu. Given that it's a 747, Honolulu's an easy fall back position to take.

Herb, you've brought back some good memories of those delicious Trader Vic's Mai Tais and Menehune Juice, followed by a delicious dinner prepared by Executive Chef George Mendreshora of the LAX flight kitchen. I think Bruno Good did the honors out of SFO. Here's a picture to further rekindle those great memories...

"Small" is obviously a relative term when one compares SEA with other hubs operated by United, of course.....
