The MacAir is very light and I hardly notice it when carrying it around. But, I love being able to pull out the iPad and work instantly (instant on/off). Mind you, the boot up times on Macs has radically improved and I find going back to Windows really painful. Currently, my latest MacAir boots in 5 seconds and I'm working in 7! That's pretty incredible. Still, instant on/off has made me even more impatient...

I have both a MBA and the iPad and lately I've noticed I've just been taking the iPad. If it's a measure trip I can do pretty much everything I need on the iPad from uploading photos and shooting them off to family to checking email and surfing the web. The biggest plus for the ipad is the 3g in the us, i can get online anywhere without having to worry about buying or finding wifi. I have to admit though, if I know I'm going to be typing a lot I would much prefer the MBA which isn't much bigger or heavier.

I've been trying to "go all iPad" but not succeeding. The lack of flash on the browser, and (I am so ashamed to admit) lack of parallels desktop (handy for connecting to my work). I also find iPad quite buggy compared to the mac with the browser freezing up at times which I've just never seen. Oh and I use Firefox with Xmarks which is nice so I don't have my bookmarks.
I will live with iPad for now, still great for my short travels, but on longer trips I am dragging along my MB Pro, which is heavy. Maybe my next chapter will be MBA

I'm surprised to hear the point about buggy. While there are some shutdowns of apps randomly, they reboot up instantly again and usually right where one left off.
As or remote access. Try something like logmein, or some of the other remote access for ipad solutions they are really EXCELLENT and allow one to leave the mother ship at home.
There are also many good browsers, cloud browse, Terre, Atomic which allow near full flash support, games, videos, movies, web pages, flash forms, so having one of those helps to fully get around no flash onboard with Safari.
I use the logmein app to remote access back to my win7 device at home and run flash things like HULU and others from there. Audio support to the device works just fine.

Remote access would be easier if they do go to the Retina display as rumored for the next iteration.
But I don't know, I'm still used to loading the photos after each day of shooting into Aperture so can't really ditch the laptop.

I agree about photos. But I have not found it to be buggy at all as mentioned. Also as mentioned, Logmein Ignition is not a free program but it provides outstanding remote access in my experience.

remote access
Splastop is another great remote access product for the iPad. I think it is .99$. These will all do resolution up to like 2048x. Should be enough.

As a traveling engineer working with 3D modeling and Finite Element Analysis I can't even begin to contemplate going iPad only. That would be a dream of mine though. Unfortunately the only decent laptops powerful enough to ru my software supplied by my company comes in a 10lb 17" form factor. That's not counting the 2lb 230Watt power brick. Imagine complaining abou the 65W power brick for your computer then trying to take that and multiply that by about 4 and then you have a 230 watt power brick.

I'm happy to announce that I've just about switched all my travel computing to iPad2 (with the bluetooth keyboard). I took my laptop on my last three trips and only took it out to charge. I think it's staying at home from now on! I'm really looking forward to the reduced weight.

My holdup is presentations. I need to work on that.

There have been a couple of updates of Keynote on the iPad since I last tried a presentation. They were supposed to help compatibility. I just uploaded my most recent PowerPoint from Dropbox and looked at it in Keynote on the iPad. I couldn't see any problems. I'm excited about tat. I need to look at it more but it seems like a big improvement.

Mrs. Jsnydcsa and I are considering an iPad 2 for the house. Indeed, as a replacement to a 2002 Apple iMac. Though I certainly wouldn't consider an iPad 2 a desktop replacement, because we both have at least one PDA each and at least one laptop each, we're pretty set if we need a full-on computer. So, we thought the iPad 2 might be right for us for our limited home web surfing, music playing, quick email sends/checks/replies, etc.
I spent about an hour with one at an Apple Store today (amid the continuing conversation of "none in stock except for the 64 gig white Verizon model") and am underwhelmed. Granted, I'm used to a completely different interface, but the whole thing seemed a little counter intuitive. Moreover, the thing seemed to big to hold but also too small.
Notably, for me that lack of Java (or perhaps Java script) support was a downer. I tried a few web sites I normally visit and on one (flysaa.com) b/c it uses Java, some of the menus didn't work. The Apple Store rep said there was no workaround (but admitted that an alternative browser might fix the problem).
Still, underwhelming. I'm in continuing mulling it over mode on this. I want to be a fanboy. But, I can't.

I use the ZaggMate case. I think it's the best all-rounder. Check out my post for more. I've also used the Kensington Keyfolio, which is very good but much heavier and has a few other caveats.

I probably have used keynote the most - have found it very useful for customer presentations on the road.
Certainly find my iPad less "buggy" than my win7 laptop. I'm not a Mac user so can't really compare.
Very happy convert
