One option for the blue-tooth keyboard I found that is minimal space is from a company called Zagg. The Zaggmate provides a keyboard within the case and is pretty small in size.

The reason I state this is to me true multi-tasking means more than one application is actually processing , as opposed to be running. The difference is huge and I do not know how that would be accomplished within this hardware architecture. A system can be preemptive while giving the illusion of multi-tasking, this would be accomplished by dispatching a background task while the user is reading a web page (for example),
Assuming you have a single core machine, Windows uses pre-emptive multi tasking where only one process may run at a time.

when the user wishes to navigate to a new page this task is dispatched and the running background task is preempted. Is this what is occurring?
The request for I/O would be passed to the operating system, since there's no point having a process in busy-wait (IE it can't render the page until it arrives) the operating system will see if another process is available to run, and if so start it. When the fetch is finished the web browser would be restarted with the data it requested. The stops and starts are completely invisible to the processes themselves.

I've fancied about going iPad-only but so far no luck.

The biggest problem has been managing the RAW+JPEG's from my 5DmkII DSLR. I don't want to import them anyway, I just want to have two copies of the photos in different places, like on two separate hard drives. I need external hd's for it, the 64G is too small. I wish there was a simple file browser for the iPad with support for USB HD's, and tools to copy the CF card to a directory on the HD.

Other problem is the default iPad Safari browser. I use a lot of tabs, I click almost every link to a new tab. Safari does "tabs" quite fine but the problem is that when you switch to another window, it reloads the page. I don't want to do that. Are there any 3rd party browsers that would actually cache the content properly?

When travelling, lack of flash is occasionally a problem for some hotel or other booking sites.

I'm waiting to see what Gen 2 brings, if it has the new screen type with better resolution with USB I'll hop on the bandwagon.

I like 1900x1200 on a 15" screen, so I want my icons, fonts, and text to be tiny

With you, USB with access to external storage is fairly essential for me to just use an iPad.

I use Dropbox instead. USB would be nice but for what I use it for not necessary.

The main thing that keeps me dragging along a laptop is syncing my iPad with my iPhone (or iPod, as the case may be). It doesn't seem possible without iTunes, which requires an intermediary computer of some sort.

Question

iPad is great stuff. I use it as a complete replacement for my laptop when I'm on the road. In particular, it is useful when I'm in the car, because it serve as navigation.
This is cool implementation of iPad in Landrover. Does any one know where I can find such iPad accessories for Mini Cooper?

I rarely use my laptop for anyting but syncing anymore. Its gotten rather dusty and lonely! I only sync about once a month anyway or if a new softwre has been released

Syncing what specifically? Maybe MobileMe or some of the Google services may be an alternative?

Primarily my calendar and contacts, though occasionally a Microsoft Office document sent via Documents to Go.

I tried to sign up for the 60-day trial of MobileMe but gave up after the system booted me out after the sixth or seventh unsuccessful try to register. I read somewhere MobileMe has largely been a flop? I haven't looked at the Google stuff yet but may give it a try. I'd rather not keep a load of stuff in the "cloud" so it would be so much simpler if there was just a way to directly sync the iPhone/iPod with the iPad via Bluetooth or Wi-fi. It seems there should be an app for that.

Calendar and Contacts should be OK with either Google or MobileMe. Documents could be handled by dropbox or MobileMe's iDisk.

Works like a charm for me - you might want to give it another try.

If it's a flop, that's probably because of the price point. I'm on a family plan, with 4 participants that's acceptable for me.

I've been using .Mac aka Mobile Me for the last four years. Although the price is a bit high, it works perfectly with my iMac, MacBook Pro, iPhone, and iPad. iDisk works well, and I like the fact that I can open items stored on the disk on any computer world wide..

iPad is the most requested gift for kids 6-12.
