something's up as it's now crawling along at 1pm pst with pages drawing blank, no icons for posting, quoting and etc (just the generic blue squares with a question mark in it)

I am finding the very slow posting issue a problem here in Australia.

Quite often it times out and then you have to refresh a couple of times and sometimes you van get back and post other times it just dies completely.

Hate to say it, but FT is becoming unusable.

The site has been running slow as molasses for the last week. Even when the site comes up, often clicking on a thread results in a 404 error. Adding a post or RBP gives a page error, even though it apparently goes through.

I haven't seen any other major site that's experienced these chronic problems over the long term. I hope someone has a plan...

Indeed. An understatement

Hey, give Internet Brands a break. They're "looking into it," and it's only been 14 months of this. What's the hurry?

This litany is why I'm not as hopeful as Randy that they can ever run this site well.

Wirelessly posted (HTC-ST7377/1.59.502.3 (67150) Opera/9.50 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en))

I'm about to give up and move on. I'm posting from my phone because the site is inaccessible, again, on the PC.

It doesn't appear that IB or its technical geniuses can solve this problem. Lots of traffic is a problem most site owners would love to have!

Unbelievable, really.

A little confused about this statement. Lots of traffic is not a problem most site owners would love to have...when the vast majority of that traffic is of the denial-of-service type!

(I agree it seems IB is not doing enough quickly enough to fix this--some reasonable-cost hardware solutions have been proposed numerous times.)

I obviously wasn't referring to DOS attacks, and I'm not convinced that is what is causing FT's longterm and ongoing problems.

Whatever it is, it needs to be fixed. I've never seen it take this long on any other "major" site. I would think FT's owners would want to move quickly to preserve their business.

When you're having problems staying logged in, it's almost always an issue with your cookies. If you delete all your cookies for flyertalk and log back in, this should fix the problem.

One of the biggest complaints about IB is our lack of communication with the forum members. Because of this, we try to keep you informed with the information we have available. When a problem is reported, we look into it. To let you know that we're looking onto it, we tell you so. If we don't tell you that we're looking into it, you get upset that we're not looking into it.

Your quotes above are for a number of different problems. Yes, there have been multiple problems of varying degree over the last 14 months. Yes, for most of these problems we've told you that we're looking at them. Would you rather that we not let you know that we're addressing the problems that you report?

While I'm not particularly comfortable speaking for cblaisd, and I suspect he is even more uncomfortable having me do so, I am going to take a wild guess here and say that what he would really prefer is having these problems fixed.

A number of us have been posting on FT for years and there have always been problems from time to time, but nothing like we have seen in the past year or so.

It has gotten to the point that every time I make a post I cut and paste it onto Notebook because I've just had too many disappear after clicking "Submit Reply".

The current situation is, to put it politely, ridiculous.

False dilemma.

Fourteen months is a long time to have so many multiple, incessant problems. Folks here have been very, very patient.

The fact that you can even refer to having perennial complaints (plural) says more than you realize.

I'm trying to think of another website that has even had, say, three months (or two, or just a single month) of problem after problem.

True, but unfortunately that appears not to be possible. (Despite the multiple offers from people on FT who do know IT stuff extremely well and have offered their expertise to assist. Such an offer would be presumptuous if we were talking about a week's worth of problems, but 14 months is a different matter).

On this one, you can speak for me indeed.

Well said.

Couldn't agree more.

I'm not an IT guy by profession. But the fact that hundreds of thousands of other sites all over the world don't have these problems indicates to me they can be fixed.

You may have a point. It only took 59 minutes to post this response tonight instead of an hour.

Way to go, IB!
