Update:
Just got off the phone with bconver and IB-Steph and they informed us that their network is still under attack and they are still fighting back as best they can. At the moment, things appear somewhat better, but it's still too early to tell whether or not the attack will flare up again. I
That's all the information we have for now. Our sincerest apologies for the inconvenience this has caused you all, and please understand that many are working hard to get this resolved as quickly as possible.

It is clear that whoever is doing it truly knows computers -- perhaps better than IBB's experts -- and if it is not being done for economic reasons (such as getting FT's data base) then you might want to try to think of any truly computer-savvy people who might have a grudge against FT.

Mikel, would there be any economic benefit to someone to launch such an attack?

Gary from A View from the Wing writes about it here. I floated the thought in one of Gary's comments sections last week.
EDIT: thousandth post woo...

Out of curiosity, what does it take to run a reliable website?
And, as a follow-up, is having a stable website that invites participation from the website's members even part of IB's business plan?

At least I am not alone.
As to what it takes to run a reliable web site... probably money.
Honestly, if you need to charge us to make this thing work then do it.

I thought it was possibly my proxy (used with corporate VPN) but having tried other networks I'm still seeing some links taking very long to load and others getting the majority of the content loaded but hanging for some smaller portion.
I am a self-confessed FT addict (is there a self-help group?
) and would be willing to pay some fee for a subscription if that would help fund fixing the server(s).
Thanks FT and the staff for this wonderful site. Not only have my travel experiences improved greatly but I've met some really nice people along the way.

Details are here:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/claim_subscription.php
FlyerTalk is actually now owned by a relatively large, publicly traded company called Internet Brands. It was sold by Randy Petersen a couple of years ago--one of the announced benefits was that IB had the capital to upgrade FT's servers to support the ever-growing size of the community. They're supposedly profitable, so I don't think they need funds to help upgrade the servers--rather, they just need the occasional kick-in-the-pants to convince the executive leadership that we're worth the money they could choose to spend on us instead of distributing dividends to their shareholders.
However, if I'm not mistaken, InsideFlyer itself is still owned by lil' ol' Randy Petersen, and so your InsideFlyer website or magazine subscription will greatly help his good cause (as well as provide you with tons of useful information). There may be some revenue sharing going on behind the scenes (though I'd guess it's just a courtesy that IB extends to Inside Flyer--either that, or it's just a remnant from before the pre-buyout days that they haven't bothered to close!), but even though FT is now owned by a Big Evil Conglomerate,
your subscription will still help a good small(ish) business. ^As for the self-help group: it's called a DO...
