  • 50% Off Award may not be applied toward service charges, room tax, food and beverages, parking, gratuities, gift shop purchases, or other incidental charges and taxes.

Your point is well made. The SPG50 is a great way to save money when you absolutely want/need something above a standard room.

This is true for suites at the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit. I don't recall the specifics but there was a weekend I was to be in Bangkok and the SGS was sold out for regular rooms. The Plat Concierge was able to offer a great price for a suite using SPG50. Ultimately I elected to try the Plaza Athenee and haven't looked back, but that is a different thread ...

Now, if only my clients would agree to $2000+ per night in hotel expense!

do not worry, mine do not either. but sometimes you have to treat the Ms. for something special to compensate her for being away three quarters of the year.

Indeed, London properties seem to be a good use of SPG50s. There are some successful reports here including one from our moderator.

hi all, sorry for a noob question, and to highjack this thread.

can i use an SPG50, and combine it with an offer? there is a promo running now where one can get upgraded to a room of the next category..

meaning, can i book a club room, use an SPG50, and still utilise this offer of an upgrade?

I am not really sure if this is of good value? I used an SPG50 for an SGS Grande Suite this January: THB 8250...BAR these days has been about THB 14,000. I am of two minds as the pix of the suites look somewhat ho hum and we have a back-up of a C&P stay @ the WGS...SPG G and not fussy...we usually nest just fine in a standard Westin room so...?

I have never seen the Suite at SGS, but from past reading here, there are few types of suites. One of them is basically 2 regular rooms put together with 2 bathrooms.

I stayed at SGS recently and felt that the room is very tired looking. A planned 3 night stay became a 1 night stay and I moved to LM, which is much, much nicer.

LM also has suites available for THB6000 prepaid.

Hi kaysquare,

I guess I would not be able to answer you now as I need to learn more about the "promo where one can get upgraded to a room of the next category", including the Terms & Conditions.

Of course, any one else can make a wild guess

Then the answer to your original question would be "no". You can't combine two rate codes on a given night's rate. You would have to either choose the SPG50 rate code or the SPGOCT rate code.

50% OFF Rack Rate

I used a 50% OFF Rack Rate Cerificate in September at the Four Points by Sheraton in Eastham, Massachusetts and saved abbroximately 1/3 of the lowest price available at the time of booking.

You know, of course, this is utter blasphemy here at Flyertalk. Get with the program man...those certificates are worthless.

Is there a reason they keep issuing these silly certificates? Why not just include a useful-for-everybody, low-value, easy-to-understand coupon? Like BOGO breakfast or something?

I don't see the point of this nonsense. It's very "un-SPG" -- which otherwise has some of the simplest and useful awards in the travel industry.

See jvmurph. This is the preferred Flyertalk point of view. No one is going to burn iahphx for committing Flyertalk heresy. Repent and be saved!
