I agree. They've done what was rumoured last week but it's something and nothing. Again, if nothing else it's just additional publicity for them, as if they'll need it as it gets closer....

Airbus A380 - 90 seconds for 853 people
WSJ is running a story about the the A380's evacuation readiness tests.
Makes for an interesting read here .
(The WSJ requires login/subscription, so the post's pasted here, minus graphics)
Update:
To comply with forum rules and possible copyright issues, the article body's been removed. Link's above...Quick Summary below:
- Evac simulation / tests planned for Summer 2005
- A380 doesn't get to commercial flights unless it's deemed to have passed the test
- Strict pass criteria: 853 people to be evacuated in 90 seconds, with half the exit doors malfunctioning
- Airbus has an interesting challenge in simulating it in a comprehensive-enough manner, without resulting in any injuries (as has happened before)
- Passengers' reaction to jumping off a slide almost 2.5 storeys high will be interesting to note...
One wonders if Airbus is soliciting applications for test volunteers (purely for kicks, of course)

LightSpeed, I know that the WSJ requires subscription, but I suggest you edit your post to keep it to just a summary, rather than the entire article--see the sticky at the top of the Newsstand forum:
2. Please DO NOT post entire articles unless you have the permission of the copyright holder. Post a paragraph, the link, and a description of the article, to comply with the terms of service of Flyertalk.

Anyway, I just don't see how they can adequately simulate the probable chaos of a real situation...
