A great way of gathering data for marketing but so badly executed that it could easily backfire ...

100,000 tickets worldwide
The offer lasts for 7 days
Assume equal quota of tickets on each of the 7 days
So 14,000 tickets per day
2 tickets allowed on each booking
So maybe only 7000 applications accepted per day worldwide
How many countries are in the system to receive a daily quota?
If 50 for example then on average 140 applications per day per country (so around 1000/country over the offer period)
I saw a figure today that in Australia there are 340,000 nurses alone
Won't take long for the quota to be filled each day.

Not knocking the promo - just advising tempering of expectations

I can hardly believe that the quota for Belgium was reached after 30 minutes... I managed to submit the form but also received that the quote was reached..
Even if there would only be 1 ticket for Belgium, I would be surprised that it was taken within this short period, given this 'promo' was lastminute launched only a few hours before the start..

I was behind my computer at midnight, going later to bed than usual while I should be resting to see new patients the next day.. I don't feel any sympathy for Qatar Airways launching this kind of promotion in such an unprofessional way.. It is great they want to support the community, but they should also realize this community doesn't have the time or energy to stare at a website which doesn't work in the middle of the night.

Just my two cents...

Wrapping the airline in a cloak of benevolence is, in itself, good marketing.

And unless "carrier imposed charges" are waived, it's a promotion potentially inexpensive to an airline with plenty free capacity, passing on taxes (and those charges, AKA airline revenue) to the passenger. These make up EUR380 of the cost of a EUR590 return ticket between Paris and Manila).

But even half-price tickets are great if you can get your hands on them. The hurdles will be the daily allocation of tickets by country, then availability at whatever fare-classes are being assigned to the promotion.

On country allocation, this offer could be insanely popular offer within Qatar's medical/nursing community: but I'm guessing tickets under the promotion will be hens' teeth.

I understand that the daily quota is released at 00.01 Qatar time. Does this mean its the same for other countries?
For example, would the UK allocation also come out the same time, so 10.01pm or is it 00.01 for all countries?

As with all offers like this, there are 2 groups of people.

1. Those who submitted an entry and are hoping they're selected.

2. Those who feel its a total con because they didn't submit in time and want to lambast the airline.

QR emailed their mailing list yesterday afternoon, which would have given people plenty of time to prepare - but I do of course accept there are those who were working last night and thus could not get to a screen - and for healthcare professionals, work usually comes before holiday planning.

3. Those who feel it's a con because the airline advertised it would go live at a certain time but actually didn't load the application at that time.
