Qatar have confirmed the presence of a policy whereby if a customer booked a QSuites flight and subsequently gets an aircraft type swap can you request travel on an alternative flight, subject to availability, see post #2709 Previously this included change of routing, now it only includes changing the date on the same routing. QR issued tickets only!
Qatar Airways confirms new business class seat

A video of the new Q Suite can be seen here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yhZDsctiZg

Photos of the new Q Suite can be seen here - http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/28007634-post109.html

From TGFlyerGirl:
there are some quite complex rules entries around seat selection - but in essence, solo travellers as a guideline won't be assigned QUADS (they are blocked off), and it's generally for 3/4 pax families. Once a QUAD has been broken up (out of necessity - for example with a couple in the E/F seats), then the rest of the quad is unlocked and can be filled with individual travellers.

They've also made 1A/2B last offered to allow airport flexibility to handle last minute requests. The other 18 windows and aisles are free for reservation as per the normal process.

The bassinet position is 11B/J (77W) and 8B/J (A359), reduced mobility seats are 2/4/6/9 B and J.

All A/E/F/K's are backward facing, all B,D,G,J's are forward facing. Total 20 Forward/22 Backward.

Capacity:
77W: J42/Y312
High density 77W: J24/Y388
77L: J42/Y230
35K: J46/Y281
359: J36/Y247

Well, AFAIK most of the aircraft grounded are the older A350s with the "older" seat... so in many ways your odds are better for QSuite. But it could also be they prioritise the QSuite A350s for their traditionally more QSuite focused routes but that is just me speculating.

Remember if you get swapped to a non QSuite aircraft you should be able to change to a different departure point from Australia.*

Background info, also for ChristopherWalken - Typically they need to link the PNRs of two separate bookings to enable the system to see that it's two travellers together which then enables them to book any seats in the middle. So if you do have two separate bookings it does need some human intervention, whether it's a call or email or social media is up to you.

When to book

We have a JFK-DAR trip at the end of August, and since this is the first time ever booking business class, I was wondering if timing matters when it come to booking and getting the best fare. Or does it not matter as much as it does economy.

If your dates are flexible, you could play around with google flights & ITA Matrix to get a feel of what the price range is. Same can be done on QR site as well.

Our dates are set, so not much wiggle room. My question is if booking 6 months in advance confers advantage (price wise) over booking 3 months in advance.

Feel free to post your menus in the 2022 thread! Glad you got on your trip finally.. although I am sure Kiev would still have been nice.

Yes please. I'm flying JFK-DOH in two weeks and thinking the menu will be the same.

I am my own data point. The prices just went up by 1k per person. So moral of the story is to buy earlier the better.

That is a bold generalization based on one datapoint.
And maybe the price will go down by 1.5k in a couple of month.
Prices do go up and down and there are periodic promotions.
