It is a pivot point for some... AMEX is $1900 but usually comes with a crazy high cancelation charge; sometimes $600 or more.
It may be worth $200 more and book via AAVacations with the option to cancel for full credit.
In the past, you had to buy trip protection on an AAV booking to be able to cancel it. It still had some rules with regards to the cancellation though. If you booked at hotel that was non cancelable then there was some risk there. Typically when you are selecting the cheapest hotel on a AAV booking and only doing the three night in BKK then the cost is pretty small so not a huge cost. So, there is the option to cancel an AAV booking if you by the option at booking but it still has some limitations. Or at least did, unless it has changed. With regards to Amex. I think it follows the carriers rules for the booking. Here is the JAL policy, https://www.jal.co.jp/jp/en/info/2020/inter/200127_02/

Is this only for AA vacations, or can you use it for normal bookings too?

I just booked this a few days ago...doing a week in Bangkok with a throw-away hotel...came out to 4300 for 2 people. Looks like the price went up today.

Anyone know why AAVacations won't let you book past 12/31? They show being able to book through first week of January but then says error select return date prior to 12/31.

BKK expired today. CGK expired a couple days ago but was renewed today. HAN is still there as well.

You can transit both airports but NRT closes so no overnight. HND is open 24 hours but has worse connections for most of Asia. Call JAL for the latest transit info.

When using AAVacations to book a package to Jakarta I noticed that when beginning a search from the main page, using Jakarta as a destination, it returns the error "Sorry we do not offer a hotel option for this destination". But If I initially search for a trip to Hanoi or Bangkok, then modify my search to Jakarta, it returns several hotel options. I haven't booked all the way through to purchase.
