How many AS miles would this earn?
Unlikely that you'll ever get IAP to price the IAP program discount into a complex routing like this one.
Shop for price, or shop for mileage and/or LP accrual, but don't expect both on the same ticket.
If you're only price-conscious, then IAP will (sometimes) be your best bet.

Kept playing around and finally found something I like.
JFK-LAX-BOS-NRT-BKK-NRT-SAN-DFW-LAX-JFK. All 5 domestic legs are J coded, only about 1000 flight miles less than the double transcon on the return, but I can sleep in my bed instead of overnighting at BOS.
Only bad part is I won't get to transit HND; I like their F lounge better than NRT.

~$2700. The outbound exceeds the baseline MPM so it adds to the cost.

LPs wouldn't be great since it isn't a special fare. I'm going to credit to AS.
The best deals for LPs would be the special fares I posted on the first page.
I do have 1 leftover upgrade I'm trying to use for the JFK-LAX-BOS legs to get me into first.

Thanks. Found one in October for $2100 per person on AAVacations.

I haven't used aa vacations in forever, I recall there was a way to book the hotel for only a few nights (10 day trip but 2 day hotel). Am I misremembering?

In advanced search, select "Hotel dates different than flight dates."

Yes, as noted you can shorten the stay but you need at least 3 nights to get the discount. You can pick the cheapest option (probably a hostel) or something nicer if you plan to actually use it.
just make sure your flights have the * next to the booking code.

Can't find "advanced search" any more - where is it located? (used to be able to see it)

Does AA Vacations have the same free cancelation as other tickets have? (AKA $2100 purchase becomes a $2100 flight credit if you decide not to fly.)

It is a pivot point for some... AMEX is $1900 but usually comes with a crazy high cancelation charge; sometimes $600 or more.
It may be worth $200 more and book via AAVacations with the option to cancel for full credit.

Thanks very much - for some reason my computer just skipped that page and went right to the next page for booking - can see it now!
