I have 7 nights coming up in Seattle, and Kimpton has three hotels there within a couple blocks of each other.
I could have 7 separate stays, rotating among hotels, and those 7 stays would get me a free night. Or I could stay at one hotel for 7 nights and only get about 1/3 of the way to a free night. (Or more reasonably, I could have 3 or 4 stays to avoid driving myself crazy, and get halfway to a free night.)
Rotating hotels is more work for the hotel staff, more expensive for the hotels to clean the rooms fully every night and to give me a minibar credit for every stay, and annoying for me. So why does InTouch reward that behavior about three times more than just staying in the same hotel for the whole stay?

If people switching a ton was an actual problem, I'm sure that rewards programs would quickly adjust their terms. Clearly there are not enough people switching hotels every night to cause an issue. People are generally pretty lazy and don't value the extras enough to switch hotels in the same city. Are you going to ask the hotel to store all your stuff every day while you go out, come back to get your stuff and then go to the next hotel? Also people often want to just be in one part of town, so moving makes their activities more inconvenient.
If you don't want to move every night, move around every other night. You'll get three stays without too much headache and be that much closer to the passport bonus too.

Yeah, I'm probably going to do it as three or four stays. All the hotels are within a couple blocks of each other, and I'll be at work all day anyway (at least on the weekdays). Alas, I won't make the passport bonus or elite status because they're based on calendar year and I just started traveling for work again in July...

Is it ten stays for passport? You could totally do that(if you are US based)!
BTW-this is FT logic I am using here

It's 10 unique Kimptons in one year. Definitely only possible if you're US based or doing a ton of business in the US all over the place. I'm going to make it this year. I hope they still give out the passport cover I heard they did in the past. :-D

Hotel Burnham - Chicago - VERY disappointing
Was in Chicago for business. Arrived late Sunday afternoon via taxi at the hotel. Doorman took the bags from the trunk while I had the backpack and another bag with me. When I went to check in there was no record of a reservation although I had made it two weeks ago through the Inner Circle desk (I have always found most of them to be VERY efficient and nice btw). Clerk was able to get me in although not at the rate that I had been told. Turns out that the doorman did not take out all of my bags from the trunk of the taxi and I lost one bag. When I asked him (didn't notice until I was finished checking in) where it was he told me "there was no other bag. . ." Umm yes there was! Bag contains personal materials that are only useful to me but very much needed.
No recognition of Inner Circle status. Construction went on until 3 AM. When I called downstairs I was told "this is downtown in a major city."
I like the look and feel of the hotel - VERY old world not modern in the least. I thought that the look and feel was really great. The staff however was exceptionally disappointing in many ways.
I tweeted about the poor stay and received a follow-up email from a person at the InTouch desk saying that they were disappointed to learn I had had a poor stay. I am posting here so that many of you will NOT stay at this hotel in the future. It really was poor in so many ways. BTW - the phone didn't work, the lamp was tied up with the phone so it toppled over when I went to pick up the phone. The restaurant serves total fru-fru food and no "real" food (well imo). e.g., pheasant, rabbit, octopus.

Argonaut San Francisco - Exceptional Service
I recently stayed at the Argonaut San Francisco and have to say it's the best Kimpton experience I've had yet. I've stayed at the Monaco Portland on numerous occasions and love it...but I don't know if anything would compare to the Argonaut. The staff went above and beyond every second of our stay. They even took us around and showed us several rooms and let us decide which room we wanted. The property is beyond amazing...it's such a cool building and the rooms are decorated in a funky nautical theme, perfect for being in Fisherman's Wharf.
We're staying there again in a couple of weeks and unfortunatley this time I had to book through a travel site since we're travelling on a tighter budget. Does anyone know if they'll link my reservation to my InTouch account even though I won't technically get credit for the stay? I'd still like my preferences to be linked to my room. I sent them an email, but haven't heard back yet. Either way, I can't wait to go back!

Thanks for the great feedback! We love the Argonaut too.
Unfortunately we cannot award a stay credit to your account if you book through an online travel agency or site, but I am more than happy to note your reservation with your preferences. Are you aware that we offer Best Rate guarantees? If you find a better rate on another website we will always match it if you book directly by calling or emailing us.
Can you please shoot me a note at [email protected] and I will make sure that you have a continued great Kimpton experience?
Thanks for your loyalty and posts!
Best,
Maggie

Every year, you're supposed to receive an elite thank you email (I got mine in like May). And there was also the elite dinner where the executive staff and ceo traveled to each city for the annual elite Kimpton mixer/dinner.

How much do you spend at Kimptons each year?

There are so amazing reps at Inner Circle though and one or two at properties that it just makes sense to hang in there thinking that they'll go "back" to their "foundational way" of how they used to treat their customers.

Reset your expectations. Now that Kimpton has become bigger the fabulous customer service that was the big draw to their program has been rapidly going downhill. You can tell when there is a new hire versus somebody who was hired 3 years ago. The "elders" truly and sincerely care about creating an amazing guest experience. Those who are new. . .could care less and make it obvious. It's a bit schizophrenic. BTW - I have over 35 nights so far this year. Can't even get an amenity that is a good amenity (I tend to think moldy fresh fruit does not really count here).
