Phenomenal upgrade to the Pacific Northwest Ballet Suite. Bigger than some apartments I have lived in! Nice and comfortable bed. Received my amenity. The only "weird" thing today was that I tried to get a glass of iced tea. I was told to go to the bar. Went and asked for a glass of iced tea and was told they didn't have any. Was told they only have "hot tea." I asked if they had ice and couldn't they pour the hot tea over the ice? Turned out that I was met with an attitude as though I was asking for the stupidest thing. I went across the street to Hotel 1000 and got an iced tea at their bar.
Aside from that little hiccup I think this is a great hotel. Some FTers would probably feel it's a bit dated, but I like this look!

I do like how, during the summer, Kimpton has sangria along with the usual wines during wine hour. Very refreshing!

Amazing treatment at the Grand Hotel in MSP. Upgraded to a Grand Suite (1,000 sf), incredibly delectable amenity delivered to the room... A huge soft pretzel, a huge chocolate chunk brownie, two bottles of water, and two microbrews.

Ten YTD mostly west coast stays and this program really rocks. We'll be good at Kimptons until the affinity credit card comes along, or they get too big to be so nice. They have replaced Four Seasons and Ritz Carlton for big City stays.

Yes, I know. And your postings directly infuenced the decision to go with Kimpton. 13 YTD stays (all within past 2 months) and they continue to impress.

This year I decided to not maintain my inner circle status, mainly because i was a little bored and wanted to see what else was out there. Also because there are so few Kimptons unless one is traveling to the San Francisco bay area or Washington DC! How about some in Vancouver?
So I tried some of the commoner brands like SPG and Marriott and Hilton, and they have been very bland. To be sure, their higher end properties are quite nice, but the customer service is stiffer and less warm.
Returning from a couple of days at the Muse in New York, I'm ready to return to inner circle!

AT 70 park avenue in new York city this week. Room is HUGE (well for NYC anyway!). Front desk staff is excellent as is the location. Morning concierge rocks; evening concierge and GM. . .not so much. No food here on property which is a bit odd, but just walk around the block and loads of choices!

Received a call from the GM. Let's just say that he definitely did not make things better (is there a reason people cannot just apologize for the mistakes made?). Reason for the 6 PM check-in? They didn't have towels for the rooms according to him.
Reason for the wrong amenities? That's what it says in your profile. Umm. .. no it doesn't.
Reason why the staff never found the wine that was shipped to them and never bothered to follow-up with me? We don't have your full credit card #.
Reason why there was only one elevator running and it had the housekeeping staff with their carts in it so many times? Again, no apologies.
He offered to let me have them show me what the Topaz is really like on my next stay to DC but honestly, I saw what they are like. With so many properties in DC why give $ to them again?
A sincere "I'm sorry" would have gone a lot further in my opinion. Never happened. This is not the type of Kimpton experience I am used to.

When I questioned why the mix up they offered some BS answer. I forget it exactly, but it was along the lines of ensuring that everything was just right. But that doesn't explain the bottle of wine and welcome card. Basically, I'm convinced that they just were lazy and never really read my preference profile. Something the Helix managed perfectly earlier a few days earlier.
I agree that an apology and a humble admission that they screwed up is important, however, I don't find that enough. I'm growing increasingly weary of empty apologies with seemingly no interest in finding out what went wrong and commitment to improving and addressing the issue in the future. They find it far easier to comp this or that or reduce some element of the stay or agree to comp a future stay. These are nice, welcome gestures, but doesn't fix the problem. It would appear the squeaky wheel gets greased and they keep on doing things unchanged, not learning from the experience.
The last rant, obviously, applies across the hospitality industry, not just Kimpton.

If you find that you're having a problem at one of the Kimpton hotels, or that your issue hasn't been resolved, Niki Leondakis is on Twitter, and does respond to a lot of tweets, so you might try that.
IIRC, it's Niki_Leondakis.

Vintage Plaza Portland
Wow! Talk about an upgrade! The room is bigger than my last apartment! Separate bedroom, jacuzzi soaking tub, living room, dining table, 2 TVs, and sitting area/chaise. Good location in downtown Portland. Nice amenity received - iced tea, bottle of red wine, fresh raspberries. Nice and friendly front desk staff.

Room#2Portland Vintage Plaza
They had to move me for the second night. Moved me to a queen bed room which is VERY tiny but it has a nice walk out deck with a hot tub. Tried using the hottub last night but literally could not lift the top off of it. Nice to have chair out there though to drink some iced tea. Used the 20 percent off coupon for the restaurant. Food was OK not sure I would eat there if it hadn't been right in the hotel and I was tired. I would stay at this hotel again when visiting Portland. The location is very good.

Does kimpton have any airline partners?
I will be staying at one in few weeks and wondered if I could earn airline miles
