My travels this year are going to have me in more Kimpton cities, so I status matched to IC. On my first two stays (Seattle & Dallas) everything was perfect. For my upcoming stay in LA (at the Hotel Wilshire), I received an email offering me the opportunity to reserve a paid upgrade (if available) at check-in.
Has anybody else seen this before? I'm assuming that it is an additional revenue mechanism that they have in place. However, I'm not sure why I would want to pay to possibly upgrade when IC status already affords me the chance to be upgraded. Am I missing something here? Thanks!

I have the same question. Just reached Inner Circle status with Kimpton and placed a reservation at the Donovan House in DC. I got the same email notifying me that I could purchase a paid upgrade. If there is availability for paid upgrades to suites, does that mean I can hope for a complimentary upgrade upon check-in considering I'm Inner Circle?
Some wonderful responses by Mike Depatie, CEO of Kimpton, in a recent USA Today roundtable discussion of hotel loyalty programs.
I am a huge Kimpton fan, and always yearn for them when I travel to places like Las Vegas.
Loved his story about keeping guests happy and paying attention to what we all put in our profiles . . . some guy said he wanted "penguins." When he checked in, his room had a stuffed penguin toy on the bed and books about penguins on the desk.

Just got back from the Monaco Philadelphia for 3 nights. I am Inner Circle, so the first night was my yearly free night. The other 2 nights I had gotten at a special $99.00 rate through a weekend promo they had sent out thru email. The hotel itself is beautiful. We were upgraded to a one bedroom corner suite which was SPECTACULAR!!!! Living room with sectional sofa, TV, desk area and 4 windows overlooking Independence Park and the Liberty Bell. The bedroom had a King bed, TV, etc. The bathroom was large with a huge free standing soaker tub and shower that was Great!! When we checked in and went to the room, my in room amenity was not there, so I called down to the front desk and they apologized and said something would be sent right up. When we returned from shopping, all of my requests from my profile were there. Chardonnay, Philly soft pretzels, and 4th St cookies from the Reading Terminal Mkt. (I am originally from Philly and LOVE these things). I was so impressed ! Overall we had a great time, and a fabulous stay in Philly, Thank you Hotel Monaco Philadelphia for a great memorable stay!!!

I received the same email recently when I had booked a trip to the Philly Monaco... I decided against the paid upgrade and to just roll the dice with my inner circle upgrade at check in. I was upgraded to a corner spa suite. I've never stayed at a Kimpton where I haven't received and upgrade.

Received a survey today that asked me to rank my favorite current In Touch benefits as well as some proposed new benefits. Seems they are considering some program changes.

Complimentary Night
Does anyone know if the Comp Night at new hotels is for 1 stay at 1 new hotel per year, or 1 stay per new hotel per year (e.g. you could hit multiple new hotels for a free night)? T&C's are confusing to me

One at each hotel, so there are 6 available for 2013. The email you received should have said "Yours for the taking at every hotel below"....

would the comp night benefit apply to IC's earned in 2012 or all IC's (including status match)?

Yes, I'd just call the IC number and ask

I've had two stays as IC so far and it's been quite hit or miss.
Donovan House - upgrade to the best non-suite room in the house. Decent amenity but no booze. But got USA Today (useless waste of paper) instead of the NYT in my profile.
The George - the place is empty but I got a standard room facing an air shaft after requesting a view when I booked. No IC food/drink amenity in the room at all.

forgive a silly question, but i seem to have lost the "yours for the taking" email.
how does one actually take advantage of the free night in a new hotel? do you have to call to book it separately from the rest of a stay?
